2littleprincesses Posted July 28, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 28, 2017 Hi! We are pretty novice camera users and I am looking for suggestions for a waterproof/active camera for our cruise that is pretty easy to use and set up. Possibly that does video and stills--does that even exist? Any recommendations please--go pro or other? Thanks!
Strophic Posted July 28, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 28, 2017 GoPro is the definitive brand of action camera. I think the current version is the Hero5, but I bought a refurbished Hero4 Silver and saved a ton of money. It does need a waterproof case (which comes with the camera) but it doesn't add much extra bulk at all. Just be sure to bring a spare battery or two! idraconis Posted July 28, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 28, 2017 I heard gopro's are great. They can be mounted on almost anything (Bikes, head bands, chest bands, selfie sticks). You may also check out waterproof point and shoot cameras. Most camera companies carry them.

Shorex Posted July 28, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 28, 2017 The GoPro is great. However, if you want a simpler waterproof camera, have a look at Nikon Coolpix 100 for about $157 or the Coolpix W300 for $386. Some sources are B&H Photo, Amazon (some discounted discontinued models), Best Buy, etc. I got amazing stills and videos snorkeling in Moorea with a Coolpix. It looks and feels like any other camera - except it's waterproof.
Lookingforfacts Posted July 28, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 28, 2017 Olympus TG-5, around $450, is rated best. Olympus TG tracker at 300 is another option. Nikon cameras mentioned by PP are reasonable choices. Costco, and other plsced, off great deals on a Fuji tough camera for under 200. Reviews aren't great
