NWACruiser Posted August 23, 2017 Author #27 Share Posted August 23, 2017 Our cabin (6277) was an extended cabin on the starboard side of the ship. It had a larger sitting area and balcony. NWACruiser Posted August 24, 2017 Author #28 Share Posted August 24, 2017 By the time we had the muster drill, we had all but one bag delivered and unloaded. The last bag arrived just after the muster drill was over. We went up to the Sun Deck to watch the ship depart from Seattle. NWACruiser Posted August 24, 2017 Author #35 Share Posted August 24, 2017 After dinner, we headed our own ways. DW and I walked around the ship making it to the piano bar. I finished the night there. DW met with SIL in the casino. They played a token game for quite a while. Christine was a good piano bar entertainer. She had a good sense of humor and worked with the crowd to entertain, changing some of the lyrics to make the crowd laugh. Multi-talented I am almost 100% sure she worked the piano bar in the Sensation on our last cruise, to the Bahamas in March 2015! If that's her, she had dark hair back then. NWACruiser Posted August 26, 2017 Author #40 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Our First Day at Sea We awoke to a surprise outside the cabin. A pod of porpoises and another pod of orcas were passing by the ship. We sat on the balcony watching them for about 20 minutes.
NWACruiser Posted August 26, 2017 Author #41 Share Posted August 26, 2017 After a nice breakfast, we wandered around the ship looking for the ship’s coin. The temperature outside was not as warm as it was in Seattle. The Lido Deck was not very popular. We had a little company. At least the Jacuzzi in the spa was in use. NWACruiser Posted August 26, 2017 Author #43 Share Posted August 26, 2017 It was the first formal night of the cruise, and, my first night of dancing after dinner. We were celebrating DC’s birthday, even though her birthday was right after the cruise was over. DW and I ordered a cake to be delivered to the dining room. We have had their cakes delivered before and they are delicious! Agnes was part of our Dining Room staff this week. When the music started, Agnes started to come over to get me to join in. But, I beat her to the punch and was already getting up to dance. I describe my dancing as “Having Fun!” I am never coordinated with other people, nor do I have rhythm. Maybe “Jell-O in an earthquake” is a better description of what my dancing resembles. I am somewhere on the dance floor.
NWACruiser Posted August 26, 2017 Author #44 Share Posted August 26, 2017 After dinner, we changed into more comfortable clothing. It was still daytime outside. We had a visitor in the room. We wandered around the ship for a bit, before I retired to the piano bar. Guest Violinist
NWACruiser Posted August 26, 2017 Author #45 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Tracy Arm Fjord It was a beautiful day sailing Alaskan waters. The sky was hazy. The water was smooth as glass. It appeared to be smooth sailing for the day.
NWACruiser Posted August 26, 2017 Author #46 Share Posted August 26, 2017 We headed down to the MDR for breakfast. DC and DCF joined us. Everything was going well, until the ship lurched portside for about 20 seconds. The MDR staff had to keep glassware from falling onto the floor. Then the ship eased back to level. The MDR staff acted like it was not unusual to have to maneuver the ship suddenly like that. Once the maneuver was over, it was business as usual. It appeared they had to make an emergency maneuver. I kept looking starboard, and saw something in the water pass by. I thought it looked like a great white shark, but was not sure. It turned out to be a dead great white shark. They avoided it, since there would likely be a feeding frenzy around it. After breakfast, I headed down to the exterior promenade on deck 3 to take photos. This allowed me easy access to both the port and starboard sides. We ventured through the Stephens Passage toward Tracy Arm Fjord. The water had a glassy appearance.
