BigGuy25 Posted August 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 25, 2017 We'll be heading out of Sydney on the Golden Princess for a New Zealand cruise in October. Do we need to get Australian currency for the slots in the casino?
99Cruiser Posted August 25, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2017 When I was on the Sun Princess in 2013 we were using USD in the casino. I can tell you that the casino was dead and not many on the ship gambled

crochetcruise Posted August 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2017 We'll be heading out of Sydney on the Golden Princess for a New Zealand cruise in October. Do we need to get Australian currency for the slots in the casino? No, you insert your Cruise Card, and charge the amount-IIRC, it's a minimum of AUD$10 to it. I sailed the Golden Princess November 2016. When you cash out, you go to the cashier and they pay you in cash. I managed to double my money, which was MOST unexpected! Someone with more recent experience in Australia may be able to help. I have never travelled internationally so I don't absolutely know, but the currency is AUD aboard, but you would need New Zealand currency if going ashore. HTH and enjoy your cruise. Aus Traveller Posted August 26, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2017 Expect to have the gambling tables almost to yourself. The staff just have to stand around and try to avoid looking bored. A few poker machines will be used, but only a few. Regarding currency - AUD is the on-board currency of ships operating out of Australia. I do know that a few years ago, the passenger's cruise card was used for the slot machines, but I cannot guarantee if that is still the case or whether cash is required. diane.in.ny Posted November 26, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 26, 2017 Maybe someone who has sailed recently can tell us whether or not you can still charge your slots money to your OBC. And I assume if you come out ahead, you get paid in AUD?
triple7tahoe Posted November 26, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 26, 2017 As has been stated, insert your cruise card, set up your account and play. Charges will be on your onboard account in AUS $. Rules state most OBC cannot be used in the casino but I have never had a problem doing so. Your on board account is a combination of funds from many places-FCC-military-loyalty etc so it would be hard to know (for them) which was which. Hope that makes sense. I do spend lots of time in the casino; have sailed recently in the OZ area and always use my OBC for gambling.

Credit 00 Posted November 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 27, 2017 BigGuy25, When you enter the casino turn left and you'll find 4 cherry machines, these things always pay off for me. Well this may not happen ;) but it's Aus $ and Cruise card as already stated.
