Living on the West Coast, we are baffled why so few cruise lines leave from the Port of Los Angeles.

Every ship we sailed on out of LA (scratch Carnival) was packed and their is so much pent up demand for us folks that hate to fly to Florida, or hate flying period, In the past we have sailed Silver Sea twice on the two available Port of LA cruises. You may the Mexico Riveria is not popular enough for port stops..but I am telling you..it does not matter. People just want to cruise for the relaxation leaving from LA and the ports are not that important..Mexico is just fine. We have taken over 15 cruises on Silver Sea/NCl/Royal and Holland..just because they left and returned to Port of Los Angeles. In light of the utter destruction of the Carribean, you might change your sailings.

Hello Shermsails,

Appreciate your suggestion and want to assure you that this is always on our radar.

Frankly, one of the challenges we face is the Panama Canal and the high cost of tolls. The tolls are based on tonnage rather than passengers which leads to much higher toll fees for us.

With that being said, we do have voyages departing from Los Angeles next year.

The first leg of our World Cruise on Silver Whisper will be departing from Los Angeles on January 6 to Papeete, Tahiti and can be extended to Auckland. For a full itinerary of our 2018 World Cruise, visit here.

Also in 2018, we have the Silver Explorer going through Baja California from Mazatlan to San Diego. More on this voyage here.

We’re planning even more in 2019. Stay tuned for additional details.

Sincerely,

Mark
