Toofarfromthesea Posted September 26, 2017 #26 Share Posted September 26, 2017 They actually "jacked up" the prices on "Great Escapes Sale," Previously had offered a rate called "Sun Drenched." Rates then dropped for about a 2 wks with senior discount & a resident rate. These were removed & the new promo was "Escape" rate. Surprise - same rate as "Sun Drenched" ! Both these promos claimed to be $1,000 less than the totally bogus "Launch" rate no one has ever paid. This mythical rate is also the basis for "BOGO" sales - no one ever sales free. The "house" always wins. There is no such thing as a "freebie." The rate has been adjusted to include the cost of anything offered. Only way to lower cost is to find an agency that has group space. (Mainly for shorter 7 days trips.) Or, take the chance on waiting till after final pay to book & be willing to take the leftovers, cabin-wise. NEVER read the marketing words. ALWAYS crunch the numbers.
klfhngr Posted September 26, 2017 #27 Share Posted September 26, 2017 We've been getting a few offers from X for some HEAVILY discounted cruises for Oct - Dec. If we didn't have one booked in two weeks, I'd jump on one in a heartbeat!!

koko1 Posted September 26, 2017 #29 Share Posted September 26, 2017 How do you get Senior discount and resident rate. These are new to me. All cruise lines offer these discounts periodically. Typically, not combinable. For senior you need to be 55. Resident rates are offered to residents of certain states. Could be just on state but usually are many. Ask your TA what is available when you book. Normally these types of discounts are time limited.
