marylizcat Posted October 8, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2017 Have a look at this thread which compares the two lines:- https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2496246 Personally, I thought Fred's food was slightly better than P&O's on the whole, but people's views will vary. Quite a lot depends on which item you order from the menu on both lines!
Travelingman52 Posted October 8, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2017 On the three Fred cruises we have been on the food has been excellent. Not been on P&O so can't comment. The facilities in H grade inside cabins have been just what we wanted and needed. After all we only sleep and change there, we see the same things, eat the same food and enjoy the company of all on board so why pay the extra for a larger more upmarket cabin. Enjoy your cruise. Travelingman52 Posted October 8, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 8, 2017 Right on Travellingman52; you think like we do. Nice to read your comments as we are thinking of a first cruise with Fred. I'm sure you will enjoy a Fred cruise, they are real ships and we have always found the service excellent or we would vote with our feet. We are sailing out of Tilbury in November to the Canaries and Morocco and have already booked another cruise for 2018. I see that you are in NZ would you board from there? LondonTowner Posted October 9, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 9, 2017 I think Fred's food, service and at sea days talks better than P and O, but the average age younger on P and O. We have had excellent cruises on both lines. Sent from my iPad using Forums

WeeCountyMan Posted October 11, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 11, 2017 Not been on P&O so can't compare directly. However we took our first FO this summer and can honestly say there was nothing to dislike - except the set dining times, however we can "live" with that inconvenience. The long journey to and from Southampton is a pain in the rear end - but that's the deal if you live on the edge of the known world. We were particularly impressed with the ports of call talks which were comprehensive and helpful, and weren't a focused sales pitch for FO shore excursions. The acid test of course is always - would we go back - booked another cruise while on board for 2018 (from Rosyth, nice one) says it all really.
