How bad can it be?

A couple of years ago...on BA....guarantee inside...right under the theatre, all the way forward, 129 sq ft!

When I saw that assignment, I upgraded myself to a balcony guarantee....got one of those with the "slightly larger balcony" in a good location, cabin above and below.

I'm cheap (no really, I have NO use of their "freebies") so I always get a guarantee. That BA IX, that we ended up not taking, was the only time I felt like a got the boobie prize.

Only troubles I ever had with a cruise cabin: once, we had a connecting room on an old smaller ship (NCL Sky). There was a significant gap under the door allowing us to hear everything our loud neighbors did. They had noisy kids and always had their balcony door open creating a whooshing of air under the door gap. Made me wary of connecting rooms but on newer ships it hasn't been a problem. Also once booked a cabin under the pool deck. SOOOO noisy every morning in the wee hours while they power washed the deck and moved furniture around. Never again under the pool deck.

Location problems only here also. upwind smokers ruin a balcony. Cabin right below a sundeck and you listen to crew move deck chairs every evening and early morning. Aft cabin should be lower deck to avoid noise from above. Foreward cabins are subject to wave crashing on hull, motion and anchor noise (surprise! if you are sleeping in!)

Earlier this month I cruised on the Star to Havana in a GTY room that ended up being inside cabin 8120. The room itself had a great location. Close to the midship stairs and elevators, a couple of flights down to the atrium area and casino. Ideal. Until the first evening. The Mojito bar band played right below my room and I could hear it all haha. Since I'm not an early riser and tend to stay up late it didn't interfere with my overnight sleeping but my cat naps were all but ruined.

However, this is really the only bad experience I've had with any cabin so I will take it in stride.
