Would like to purchase a little gift for a cruising friend who lives in Ft Lauderdale Hill. We were thinking of a nice gift card to a great local restaurant. Those of you who know the area could you help us with any suggestions?

We appreciate your ideas so much and it will make our friend very happy.

:halo:

Does your cruising friend perhaps live in Lauderhill? There is no such place as Fort Lauderdale Hill. Once it's clear where he/she lives, recommendations can me made.

Any distance limitations, food restrictions?

My son used to live in Lauderhill (worked for the Police Department) so perhaps I can ask him.

Thank you so much, I think you're absolutely right - its Lauderhill from what I can find.

I'm just looking for something "special," a place where everyone loves to go or where you bring out-of-town guests, etc. Would like to find a nice gift for her.

Hi again,

So I asked my son about places in Lauderhill ... he said there really isn't much to choose from. There are two good Korean BBQ restaurants but they are very casual. He mentioned an Italian restaurant and a French Crepe restaurant, links below:

Otherwise, he suggested looking at places by Sawgrass Mall (very close to Lauderhill.) Most are chain type (Cheesecake Factory, Lux Cafe, etc.) but certainly nice "evening out" places with lots of gift card options.

Just so you know, Lauderhill is a VERY small area, a total of nine square miles. It used to be rather affluent with a large Jewish population that lived in Inverrary (Jackie Gleason lived there and held a golf tournament annually.) Unfortunately, the demographics have changed dramatically - to give you an idea, there are approximately 120 sworn officers for the city, which is a large concentration of officers for NINE square miles. He is now with a different Law Enforcement agency in Florida.

Hope this helps ... good luck.

Funny. Yeah, Lauderhill is not considered a desirable area but it has a couple acceptable pockets still.

Restaurant gift cards are tough. I'd love Rustic Inn or something of that sort, others just enjoy a nice night at Outback!

You may want to consider a Darden or Bloomin Brands gift card so your friends have lots of choices. We have almost every one of those concepts in the Lauderhill area.

DogLover, my mouth fell open when you said 120 officers for 9 square miles!!!! Husband was police officer in Rockland, Maine and there were 12 officers for a town of about 5,000 (maybe 6,000). He was with Pinellas County Sheriff's Dept. until we moved to Maine. Ahhhh, it was an interesting life! ;)

Thanks so much for your help; and to BNBR also!
