Voom on Transpacific cruises

My advice to anyone thinking of buying VOOM is: don't don't buy the package until you have tried it out onboard for a couple of days. The pre-sailing discount isn't worth the risk. See my post about VOOM on my recent TA.

Except for a few hours near the equator it worked well a few weeks ago on the entire Explorer Sydney to Seattle cruise, but EX has the updated system. That should affect speed more than satellite lock though.

Guess the IT officer on board was misinformed about his equipment.

Maybe he meant the ship was updated to VOOM - which all ships have, as of May 2015. Not all VOOM is the same. In his defense, network traffic is typically controlled from Miami and updates/upgrades of BW are sometimes not under the ship's control.
