reallyitsmema Posted December 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Might book this cruise, the ports dont look so great is it really worth it? Never been on this ship so Im hoping the ship makes up for the ports. Looking for spring time. We have done that itinerary twice on Anthem, not our favorite itinerary, but would do it again if the price was right. The ship is really worth experiencing at least once. As far as the ports, Port Canaveral can be a beach day or head to Orlando if you are willing to pay the outrageous one day rates at any of the parks. We visit family, so it works for us. Coco Cay is nice, if you get there, we didn't on our last sailing due to high winds making tendering too dangerous. Nassua is usually a stay on the ship day for us, though we went over to Atlantis this last sailing, just to walk around. It is all what you make of it. Anthem has great entertainment, Northstar is fun to try, Seaplex is always fun.
alfaeric Posted December 14, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2017 We've also done this itinerary twice, and have a third booked. The price tends to be rather amazing. So much so that we got a cheap upgrade to a GS just before sailing. No, the ports are not spectacular, but most can find something to do. We've gone to Cocoa Beach as well as Cocoa Village... Nassau- some love it, some hate it. We like it, and know how to go around and find some interesting things- there's a free (walk to) beach, a sort of free (taxi to) beach, you can visit Atlantis, see some of the more historic places, etc. And Coco Cay is just a simple beach day. We will do Thanksgiving on the Anthem for the third time on this itinerary next year. Just easy. And we love the ship.
njmomof2 Posted December 14, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 14, 2017 We also don't find the itinerary exciting in any way, but being able to board without having to fly, not worrying about bag checking or weight limits and knowing that 40 minutes after stepping off the ship I'm back home goes a long way towards making it enjoyable. We leave next Friday for the Christmas cruise. Did the same in 2015. I'm pretty sure we probably won't be getting off the ship at all (well, maybe we will at Coco Cay but that's not assured), so it's not about the itinerary for us. It's about being able to get away. Of course, because this is a holiday cruise, no deals for us. However, we did get a bit of a price drop the day before final. Changed to non-refundable 1 day before final payment was due, and the price was about $300/pp less than the refundable price. From that day until it sold out, the price never came down again, so I guess we were lucky. More than we paid in 2015 (but I guess you have to allow for some increase over 2 years) but less than going rate between final and sailing. Life is Good Cruising Posted December 14, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 14, 2017 Not a fan of this itinerary either but we make the best of it and always have a wonderful time on Anthem. The price was right for us on 10/21/17,10/28/17 and 11/11/17. In Nassau we did Pearl Island on each sailing, loved it. In Port Canaveral we go to Fishlips for a late lunch and Coco Cay is a beach day which we missed on only one of the sailing due to high winds. The ship is beautiful, they have a great staff, excellent service, lots of things to do on board, love their Production shows and the Entertainment on board :D which makes up for the itinerary.
