Nightlife on Disney

Can you tell me what nightlife a Disney cruise offers? We have adults and older teens in our group and was wondering if everything pretty much shuts down at 10pm.

You can do a google search for Disney Navigators and look at past ones to get an idea of what sorts of activities/times are available on any given cruise.

While I'll agree that there's no "late-late" night life, we've always found plenty to do until at least 11:00 every night (sometimes a bit later).

The teen programming in The Vibe continues till about 1am on most nights. To be fair, my daughter found that she was not comfortable with some of what was happening there late at night...but it is there. There is adult stuff in the night club areas till about midnight. Typically there is a "game show" type of thing--"Match Your Mate," "Magic Quest," etc., often an "adult only" variety performer (this on cruises of a week or more typically), and a themed dance/music activity. These are the same performers who did family shows earlier, but they do a slightly more risque, adult only show later at night. There are sometimes late night movies in the BVT, and if there is a true "PremEAR at Sea," it will start at 12:01 or 12:05am. They have taken to using this term at times that it is not the premier day on land, but just a showing in the WDT....and those repeats are not at midnight.

There is nothing to prevent you from strolling the exterior decks late at night, but there will be nothing open and you'll have views of things like cleaning up!

As Shmoo said, your best way to see what is happening is to check recent Navigators for cruises of the length of your cruise. The length of the cruise has a lot to do with what is happening. There are complaints that Disney rolls up the carpets at midnight...while that's not totally true, there is definitely less scheduled late at night than on some other lines. Perhaps this is because the kid programming closes at midnight, so parents need to pick up their little darlings and take them to bed.

There is little to no nightlife on DCL. You get something going on in the nightclub (usually a featured performer / comedian or a "game show") at around 10-10:30, and once that is over there is not much. The DJ in the nightclub will start playing music at insane levels given there will likely be no more than 6 people left in the club. The other bars are open but will generally have only a handful of people at most.

I've always felt that since DCL will never have casinos, that a "Dave & Buster's" type of venue would be a great compromise.

We took a cruise on NCL's Getaway last February. The one area that was a real standout to me was their Irish Pub-style area (O'Sheehans). First and foremost, it is open 24 hours, and you can get (included) food like buffalo wings, nachos, etc. What was really nice was there was also a pool table, darts, mini-bowling, "hot shot" basketball. The games did cost extra, but it was nominal (a buck or two). A nice venue for a group to hang out late at night and have some fun instead of in an ear-splitting nightclub. DCL should incorporate some of these concepts into O'Gills (are the pubs all O'Gills on all the ships now?).

  • 3 weeks later...

Was on Carnival Glory last February and was disappointed that the hot tubs were closed at night. RCCL had hot tubs open all night (15 years ago), and it was a great way to meet adults at 2am.

So do DCL hot tubs stay open or close?

Almost everything ends early on dcl. Very different from other cruise lines. The only thing that annoyed us was that pools close early. One thing they do is they usually show movies in the theater. Sometimes quite late. If you are on board for a movie opening they will show it at midnight. My kids went to one of the star wars openings and got back to the room around 2. Dh said he slept through it. Lol.

I agree the pools closing early is annoying and a big pet peeve of mine. All pools and hot tubs (on all ships on all cruise lines) should generally be open 24/7- only closing one at a time somewhere in the middle of the night for cleaning/maintenance and then re-opening them once completed. However, if DCL wants to close the family and kids pools..whatever (and, yes I know they have to for things like Pirate night). However, the adult area pools should always stay open.
