Cruise out of miami...precruise hotel in FLL?

It seems much cheaper for me to fly into Ft. Lauderdale than Miami, but wondering if it's worth it (flying out of Pitt). I was wondering, if we get a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale for one night, could we taxi or rent car to port of miami? Is it more cost effective to just fly into miami and get the one night there instead. We only need the one night but want to do it the most economical way possible. btw, this is on carnival. Sunday night is the hotel night.

Good question. Any flight savings will most likely be eaten up in transportation costs from FLL to Miami. Unless I was saving a couple of hundred $$'s I'd fly direct into Miami and spend the night in Miami. ;)

It's about $200 per person cheaper, right now at least. Also, the times were perfect and non stop. I wish a SW ding would come along. I am tempted to wait it out but don't want stuck with the $400+ airfare, which is where it's at now. it will only go higher, i'm sure. i COULD have had $187 at one point and passed it up.grrrr...

Well S2B, that is quite a cost savings and would be worth traveling into FLL. You may be best off taking Tri-County Airport Express http://www.floridalimo.com/Pages/sharedr.html directly to a hotel in downtown Miami. If you can get a decent rate close to the port of Miami you may as well head there. Start with these fine hotels:

We (party of 5),flew into FLL, and booked a limo from Larry's Limo for $100.00 (each way) to MIA. The savings on airfare easily offset the limo cost, plus it was fun having a limo driver standing with a sign with our name on it at the airport.

I would fly into FLL if you can get the prices to work. My sister and I just cruised in November - got roundtrip on SW from MDW to FLL, $115 a person, then just grabbed the shuttle (Tri County-mentioned previously) out by baggage claim, $18 a person, no reservation necessary, to the Holiday Inn Port of Miami (fyi -sailaway pkge for $99). So it was definitely cheaper than flying straight to Miami, where American wanted something like $230 a person.
