Best Beach

Hi! We'll be here next week with our 18 month old toddler. I would love to not bring the car seat off the boat. Are there nice white sand beaches within walking distance of where the cruise ship docks?

TIA!

There is a pool near the port, but don't bring the car seat. Transportation is similar to the trams in Disney. There is no place to secure a car seat. Even if you end up in a real cab most do not have seat belts.

There is a nice man made beach area at the port. The sand is not super white but is pretty nice. We were just there last week and I noticed they have a cabana type structure on the beach which would be perfect for traveling with a young child. It is a shaded structure with a large cushion and curtains you can close. It would be perfect it you needed to put your little one down for a nap. Not sure how you reserve one though. I was very impressed with the port area. They have a large pool with a swim up bar and tons of activities like swimming with dolphins, a small area with sting rays where you can snorkel and we saw an area with pink flamingos. And of course lots of shops. It was a rainy day when we were there but I would definitely love to go back and spend more time around the port area!

We took our then 23 month old to Mahahual Beach in Costa Maya. No car seat either (we’d learned on a previous cruise that even if you bring them, they are useless). Yes, you do have to take a cab over, but it’s a very short ride (you can see your cruise ship from the beach). We enjoyed getting away from the hustle and bustle of the port in Costa Maya (which seems to get worse and worse every time we visit). Mahahual is still a fairly quiet town with considerably less crowds than the port area. Not only that, but pretty much everything that you can buy at the port, you can get in Mahahual for a fraction of the price.

The beach was wonderful, with crystal clear waters, and very easy for our son to enjoy. As mentioned above, very uncrowded and relaxed. Only another family or two near us.
