Rare SandyR5 Posted December 21, 2005 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2005 Hi - Was wondering if any of you who have been to Princess Cays can recommend the best place to just plop down for a relaxing time at the beach. When we were on RCCL's island there is a much quieter area away from all the watersports with its own lunch pavillion and its much less crowded from the main area. Is there a place like this on Princess Cays? Is there more than one dining area? Thanks.
chrysalis Posted December 21, 2005 #2 Share Posted December 21, 2005 it is quieter if you go right when you get off the tender...you will cross a small bridge. regarding food, it depends on the size of the ship..if you are on a Sun class ship, the only food is to the left...if you are on a Grand Class ship, there will be food either right or left. you can get drinks both left and right. jerwick Posted December 21, 2005 #3 Share Posted December 21, 2005 Rent a cabana. Only $15 for 2. They are on the right side. I would recommend pre reserving online. They provide welcome relief from the sun.
Rare SandyR5 Posted December 21, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted December 21, 2005 Thanks to both of you for your answers. We're on a Sun class ship, but I still think we'll just go to the right.:) Walking before/after lunch will do us good. ;)
Stepilyn Posted December 21, 2005 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2005 On our recent visit to Princess Cays, we went to the left after we got off the tender, walked somewhat, and found lounges under a stationary thatched roofed hut. If you prefer full sun, there were plenty of lounges in the sun. We were about 6 rows back from the water and somewhat near the pavillion where the lunch is served. We loved this spot. We were able to rest, read, close our eyes, and people watch. It was near the restrooms too. I can close my eyes today and remember vividly that wonderful day. Don't forget to take a walk over to the jetty where scuba diving is very popular because of the very colorful fish. Have a great cruise.
Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted December 21, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2005 If you are on a Sun class ship and your's is the only ship at Princess Cays, you will have no trouble finding room. We snorkel there, around the jetty which is off to the left, so we generally go way down to the left and have a good amount of privacy.

We are on the CB in Feb. The ship is so huge, I can't imagine having more than 1 ship there.
Frugalist Posted December 22, 2005 #8 Share Posted December 22, 2005 Rent a cabana. Only $15 for 2. They are on the right side. I would recommend pre reserving online. They provide welcome relief from the sun. We were at Princess Cays on Dec. 16 and saw the so-called Cabanas. They're really just ½ a tent with the side facing the water open. All they do is provide a chance for some expensive shade. There is plenty of free shade available all along the beach. These are not true cabanas as we have seen when we visit some land-based resorts, and provide absolutely no privacy and no amenities. Still, the choice is up to each passenger. That's what makes cruising so great.

Yes, they do (we were told by those employees working on Princess Cays), but whether they schedule Grand Class and Sun Class ships together, or just two Sun Class ships, I'm not sure. We've only ever been there with just one Sun Class ship using it, and there was plenty of room to spread out.
waterrats Posted December 22, 2005 #10 Share Posted December 22, 2005 If you are more of the social type of people then definitely go to the left. If you want more peace and quiet than go to the right. If you want to play volleyball, go left. If you want the best snorkeling on the island, go left If you want a cabana, go right If you don't want a cabana, go left. If you go right, the cabanas block your view of the water. Drinks and food, either side for the grand class. Water sports are located to the left. snorkel shop is located far left. Shopping is to the left. keepitnballance Posted December 23, 2005 #11 Share Posted December 23, 2005 We cruised on the Star back in October and had reserved a cabana weeks prior to departure. We got off the ship around 11:00am and went ashore-figuring we had a cabana reserved, what was the hurry? No one could find us a cabana! The Princess staff and lifeguards were perplexed as to where an open cabana may have been! They don't have these things numbered or really "reserved" or "assigned" in any way. They really need to be numbered and assign guests to a specific number or area-something to identify a specific cabana other than a piece of paper! We ended up getting our money back and later heard a guy bragging about how they "scored" two cabanas and wondered what the people who rented them paid for them. Needless to say we weren't too happy-one of those was probably ours! OH well, live and learn and next time we won't rent a cabana-we'll just sit in one like everyone else did! Good luck!
