Yukon Rail/Bus and gold panning

Is Yukon Rail/Bus and gold panning possible in one-day? We have 14 hours in Skagway, I believe.

I have read so many threads and info on this, I am going insane flipping back and forth between everything.

Where is the best gold panning? Husband is a huge fan of the Gold Rush show, and we realize it is not the same. We are a family of 8, ages 12-84.

Thanks!

Holland America Line has an excursion in Skagway that includes a train ride from Skagway to Fraser and a bus ride back with a stop in Liarsville for a show followed by gold panning.

Here is a link to my Skagway (Pages 3 and 4 for Liarsville) excursion as described above:

Yes, I had seen the Chilkoot Charter tour that you mentioned. Is there a real difference in these 2 panning sites? If the Dredge is better, maybe a shorter train/bus tour would be better to accommodate the dredge tour.

Liarsville is a good stop to learn the history of the gold rush, see the tent city, and have a good lunch.

I find Liarsville somewhat hokey, but fun. It's well down on my list of things to do in Skagway. The lunch is ok - but I would rather have fresh halibut and chips washed down with a spruce tip blonde in town. I prefer the gold dredge because it is real history (they imported it from Dawson) and I can jump on a bus when I'm ready to leave instead of waiting around.
