surfjock27 Posted February 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Hey cruise friends! Just booked the Horizon 8 Day on December 1, 2018. We’ve been in just about every cabin type, but have never done a cove. I like to be high and to the front, by preference. I also prefer to be around all of the “action”. Now granted, anywhere on a cruise would be fine, but I’m starting to rethink my choice in booking a Cove. The water being close excites me, the privacy is also a plus. I just can’t seem to kick the thought of being so low and away from everything. Where are my cove balcony lovers? Where are those to struggled with the thought of a cove but ended up loving it? coolson_2000 Posted February 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Had a cove balcony twice on the magic. Anytime we decide to book a balcony, it'll be a cove from here on out. Had the regular balcony and the aft wrap on the magic and just prefer the cove. When you are returning from Port, you don't have to wait for the elevators. Go up a couple sets of stairs and you're at your cabin. Love the cove balcony.

On the plus side, you have a balcony and you have privacy away from everything On the minus side (for you) you will not be high on the ship and you will be probably 4 or 5 decks away from the "action" So what do you like more....balcony & privacy or up higher & close action? Which pair outweigh the other and there is your answer. Have a good cruise
ohiowilly Posted February 10, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 10, 2018 The only real criticism of cove balconies that I have seen has been for those cabins that are located under the galley. For the most part, people rave about the opportunity to be close enough to to the waterline to have a great view of flyish fish, Dolphins, etc. We plan to book one again on our next Cruise on a Dream or Vista class of ship. Froufie Posted February 10, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Are you kidding? Why cruise if not for the view of the ocean - the closer the better! LOL You can always get anywhere else you want to go on the ship - there are stairs/elevators - but so relaxing to have your own private little balcony oasis where you can gaze out - no matter the weather - I say go for it! (but agree you don't want to be under the galley!)
jwjax Posted February 10, 2018 #6 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Try to book a Cove near the Central Elevators!:) On most ships with Coves, the deck will be low, 2 or 3? Also, on most ships, the Casino, Lounges etc, are on the promenade deck are only a few decks up on the elevator The middle Coves may under the dining room, but not usually a problem.... Just avoid under the Galley!:)
bury me at sea Posted February 10, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 10, 2018 First, I do not like full sun. I sail during summer months to take school aged grandchildren but need some shade to be comfortable. Second, I am speaking of cove balconies on Dream class ships, close to mid-ship elevators but never aft of them because the galley might be above you. We have had aft extended balconies. Love the size of the balcony and the plus 180 degree view. The wake is mesmerizing. Disliked the constant sun until we tried deck nine with the overhang of the Lido deck. Disliked the lack of breeze. Next tried a mid- ship deck 9. Loved everything about it. Partial shade, nice breeze, great view. Next tried a mid-ship cove balcony. Wow. It was my favorite. We were under a life boat, which hampered the view only if you craned your neck and looked straight up. Nice shade, felt slightly roomier than a regular balcony, and the experience of being so close to the water is wonderful. Felt very private. Never saw people on either side of us. Never had to wait long for an elevator. So easy to get on and off the ship at port. Loved everything about it and preferred it by far to our previous balconies. Just icing on the cake that it was less expensive. Stay away from the galley area. And don't book it if you like full sun. Hope you have a great cruise. tallyho8 Posted February 10, 2018 #8 Share Posted February 10, 2018 I'm in a cove balcony on the Dream leaving tomorrow for the 3rd time. I love it. I'm about 10 steps away from the elevator and it's faster and easier for me to get up to the Lido deck than it is for most people up on deck 9. Rare LMaxwell Posted February 10, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Away from the action? Our preferred rooms are away from action! I don’t know where you are located but I doubt any particular room is more than 2 or 3 minutes further from action than another you’ll be ok

I have been in cove balconies 4 times now. My absolute favorite. They are wider and very private. Also being a redhead, they offer me the shade I need. I prefer a cove balcony all the way!! bakersdozen12 Posted February 10, 2018 #11 Share Posted February 10, 2018 I’ve been in a cove balcony on both the Dream and the Magic and it will always be my choice of balcony on that class of ship (and the Vista class too). Nothing compares with being that close to the water. It’s so much fun, and personally, I have never felt away from the action. I don’t see cruise ships as being anything that’s so big that you can’t walk to anyplace on it easily and within minutes. cmichael1279 Posted February 11, 2018 #12 Share Posted February 11, 2018 I love the cove balconies - booked for the third time on Magic in May. One nice thing is deck 2 is all cabins, so you can get from the front to the back of the ship without running into any people/obstacles! Once you get your bearings where the elevators and stairs are, you can get anywhere on the ship quickly! Also great on debarkation day if you're carrying your own luggage off, only one floor up to get off the ship!
