floater Posted March 2, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 2, 2018 I've seen a lot of posts about converting US $ to Cuban. I was wondering if there is any provision for converting Cuban back to US for money you didn't spend.
pbenjamin Posted March 2, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 2, 2018 Yes you can exchange them back for dollars in the cruise terminal.
PAHORNER Posted March 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 10, 2018 Yes, but you will AGAIN be charged the 10% penalty. We were not happy about that.
floater Posted March 10, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted March 10, 2018 Yes, but you will AGAIN be charged the 10% penalty. We were not happy about that. Why am I not surprised?
Go-Bucks! Posted March 11, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 11, 2018 Yes, but you will AGAIN be charged the 10% penalty. We were not happy about that. That's incorrect. The 10% US dollar penalty is only tacked on when coverting dollars TO CUC's. You'll also be charged the 3% fee that all currencies pay. When converting CUC's back to US dollars (as well as other currencies), you'll be charged just another 3% fee.
drvmywifecrzy Posted March 18, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 18, 2018 You must convert it back as it is illegal to bring it out of Cuba Sent from my iPhone using Forums
MCcruiserD Posted March 19, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 19, 2018 How late is the currency exchange in the Cruise Terminal open (at night)?
cinlo Posted March 24, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 24, 2018 We tried not to convert more than we thought we would use and guessed pretty well....at the port, you can buy rum, cigars, and other souvenirs. We were one dollar short using up all of our money and the clerk just sold us what we wanted anyway....the Cuban people were very nice except I found the ones working at bars and restaurants to be rather surly. happicruzer Posted March 24, 2018 #9 Share Posted March 24, 2018 We ended up using US$ and the shop owner did the conversion. Did receive a few coins back, good souvenirs.
Pitzel Posted April 8, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 8, 2018 I know that it is also possible to exchange Euros, Pounds and Mexican Pesos for CUCs. Does anyone have experience exchanging coins from these currencies? Or are only bills accepted? I ask because we have currency left over from several trips that we may never use and it would be great to convert them in Cuba, if coins are accepted.
