Table for 2

Yes, every dining location - the World Cafe, the Restaurant, Manfredi's, Chef's Table, Mamsen's, and the Pool Grill all have tables for two. In Manfredi's and the Chef's Table, where you make reservations, if you want a table for two that is what you will be given. In the Restaurant, where you are escorted to a table but do not have reservations, you will be given a table for two if you ask for it. In the World Cafe, Mamsen's and the Pool Grill, the tables for two are available for open selection.

There are not enough tables for two in the World Cafe, and many couples take a table for four. That works out fine except at very crowded times, such as at breakfast when everyone is getting off for excursions at similar times. Then, you might find someone asking to share your table. Also, there is a general culture of conversation across tables that are next to each other. Of course this varies with personalities, but it is common. In a restaurant off ship, you would not typically acknowledge a couple at a separate table near you. On the ship, this would seem somewhat rude. There is less conversation across tables in Manfredi's and the Chef's Table, where there is greater separation, but quite common in the lines of tables for two in the Restaurant.

As everyone else has said, yes, you can get a table for two, and it can be as sociable or private as you like. The tables are close together in all the restaurants but somehow your fellow diners will understand immediately if you wish to have a quiet dinner-for-two or a dinner with friendly table side conversation with neighbors. It's really nice.

Sounds perfect! A nice way to meet others.

On previous cruises we've been assigned a table and had to stick with the others assigned to it for the duration of the cruise. Only once did we coincide with people we really liked. The worst experience was on a P&O cruise. I don't which which was worse, the constantly drunk woman, the very nice but profoundly deaf nonagenarians or the silent couple and their overactive teenage son. We ended up having room service most nights. This made us realise what an important aspect of a cruise good company is.

Nippy, if you do want to occasionally dine with others just ask to be sat at a sharing table. You don’t have to do this every night, but once in a while is fun.

And as others have mentioned, the tables for two are very close together. On this line more than others we've been on, the passengers at two-tops have a strong tendency to visit with the adjoining tables. A table for two could easily be considered a "sharing table" on VO. ;)

Yes, had very pleasant spontaneous interactions with adjoining tables for 2 at Chef's Table.

Our only bad experience was at our table for 2 in The Restaurant where a nearby party of 6 was loudly discussing politics trashing their mutual "friends" of the wrong political party. :)

The nice thing is something like that is rare and easily avoided.

I love not having assigned tables for a cruise.

Oh, Nippy (love that!), it will. I would say that for the first little bit, you may have to remind yourself that you’re not on Cunard. Not that one is superior to the other, they’re just different!

We had a similar experience at The Restaurant being seated next to a group over talking our conversation, not recognizing or even giving eye contact. Rude. We just got up and left for the WC. This venue is best for groups to dine with conversation not couples looking for quite dining experience. We found the Chef's Table and Manfredi's best for that. We were later contacted by staff asked about our experience and apologized.

Our favorite spot for dining was just out the back sliding doors of the WC on the Aquavit Terrace around the corner and out of the wind. Great view and friends were welcome to join us there if they wished or not. :)

Or for others who find themselves in a similar situation, an alternative is to ask the maitre'd to move you to another table.
