Countrygurl Posted March 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2018 We are flying into Newark for an August cruise. Suggestions on a one night pre cruise hotel. We are 4 women traveling together so we are looking for somewhere safe. A good view of the city skyline would be a plus. Also, recommendations for transportation to the port and from the port to the airport.
JPV072900 Posted March 4, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2018 We are staying at the Hyatt House in Seacaucus, NJ. The room is affordable. It includes a free breakfast, and you can park for free throughout the cruise. It's about a half hour drive to the port, but you can take Uber for around $30 each way. Hope this helps, Jeff Sent from my SM-S727VL using Forums mobile app
Clarea Posted March 4, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 4, 2018 We stayed at the Residence Inn in Elizabeth. There is also a Courtyard and Country Inn & Suites there. All have free airport shuttle. Car service to the cruise port is around $60 total. insley Posted March 4, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2018 We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Elizabeth Town pre-cruise in October. Very nice property with spacious rooms. No views to speak of. Free shuttle from the airport. Our Uber to the port was about $30.oo. The hotel also offers a transfer to the port than you can book at check in. For us the Uber was less expensive and gave us more flexibility.

Dinner requirements? Are the 4 of you sharing one room? What is your hotel budget per person or per room? What bed configuration do you require? There are no views of the NY skyline from hotels at Newark Airport. To get that you're going to have to spend the money to get yourselves to Jersey City to stay in the Newport area. Do you have any thoughts about taking the train into NYC for your precruise evening? All these factors affect your choice of hotel, so please answer the questions. We are flying into Newark early afternoon on Aug 30. We only need 1 room with 2 queen beds. No actual budget, but nothing too expensive or elaborate. I don't anticipate win will travel into NYC. pattycakes Posted March 4, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 4, 2018 (edited) You may not necessarily need a hotel with views of the city but might opt for a less expensive one and spend the money on a restaurant with views instead. Otherwise it's easy to search in the Jersey City area for hotels (make sure you factor in any resort or hotel fees which can add $40) or try air-bnb or home vacation rental sites, which sometimes hotels rent their condos/coops through. You may also sign up for (ebates) which offers cash back if you use their links to book. Also, [if you opt for the Jersey City area], you could take a ferry ride (search for nywaterway) to Manhattan and back if its a nice night. taking a ferry to Brookfield Place for instance would land you 3 blocks from the trade center. If you choose to walk around there's tons of shopping and food options - some expensive - some not. LeDistrict in the Winter Garden would be about 60-70 depending on dish with wine; however there's a food court above it and a restaurant on the path just south of the north cove where you can stop for a drink and north in the alley with the movie theater there's a shake shack and pizzeria and other options. If you follow the path on the water all the way south you'll have great views of the Statue of Liberty and a beer hall -- views which you won't get from the cruise ship leaving from Bayonne. Here's a map https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7192647,-74.0199943,15z the little blue square just under the Irish Hunger Memorial is the ferry link. Look at Country Inns and Courtyard Elizabeth on International Blvd in Elizabeth next to the Jersey Gardens Mall and book something NOW. Country Inns offers free breakfast and a shuttle option to Cape Liberty for $17.50/pp. Folks have reported that the hotel has been under construction. I have stayed there and it is not too elaborate or too expensive for 4 people. The Courtyard has no free breakfast and does not offer a transportation option. You would have to book your own transportation which could be even more than $70 each way for your group of 4 with luggage. Embassy Suites has double beds and Residence Inn has a queen and a sofabed.
