Sothampton to London by bus

Recommended Posts

National Express run a direct coach (bus) service from Southampton coach station to Victoria coach station in central London. Fare is somewhere under £20, journey time about 2 hrs 15 mins. The coaches are quite similar to Greyhound, comfortable enough for the journey time, on-board rest-room & wifi, Drivers load & unload luggage.

You are strongly advised to pre-book cos frequency isn't good & the coaches don't have elastic sides.

A taxi from any cruise terminal to Southampton coach station will cost no more than £10.

Whether the bus is the ideal transport will depend to some extent on the location of your destination (presumably hotel) in London.

Most cruise lines also offer coach transfers. They operate from the cruise terminal & also go to Victoria coach station.

Sometimes there are also ships' coach transfers to KingsX / St Pancras station - these are primarily for folk heading for the Eurostar trains but would also suit those with hotels in the area.

Cruise line transfers are pretty poor value compared to Nat Express - there's some comfort in being in the cruise line's care when heading to the ship from London or its airports, but I see no advantage in paying cruise line transfer fares when heading to London.

If you want to combine a coach transfer with some sight-seeing on the way, try https://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/southampton_to_london_shared_bus.html

They operate from the cruise terminal & after your tour-transfer they drop you at your central London, or to a hotel very close by.

(IMHO the van transfers offered by the same operator aren't such good value)

You also have the options of travelling by train from Southampton central station to London's Waterloo or Victoria or Paddington stations http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ or by private transfer

You can take www.nationalexpress.com, take a short taxi ride (under £10) from your Southampton dock to Southampton Coach Station to London Victoria Coach Station.

Also can take www.internationalfriends.co.uk. They pick up at the varies Southampton docks. They have tours that stop along the way to London. They drop off at varies London hotels, LHR and LHR hotels. They only go on embankment and disembarkment days.

Each cruiselines have their own transfers to LHR and Victoria Coach Station.

I have taken both National Express and International Friends. I will be taking International Friends In July with stops at Salbury, Stonehenge, and Windsor before they drops us off at our London hotel.

We’re taking the bus the opposite way in June so it should be the same. National express is £5 + £1 admin fee from Victoria coach to Southampton coach then a taxi between the station and ship. I can’t say what’s the best way but it’s the cheapest.
