Jay23 Posted April 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2018 St Mark's Square? You can get there easily from the ship by using the People Mover and then the Valporetto and your friends will be familiar with the geography of Venice if they are staying there. Rare GeezerCouple Posted April 7, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2018 St Mark's Square? You can get there easily from the ship by using the People Mover and then the Valporetto and your friends will be familiar with the geography of Venice if they are staying there. You should pick a specific location in St. Mark's Square. It's huge, and can get crowded. Find a cafe/restaurant, and if you don't want to eat/drink there, at least it's a place to "meet in front of". When we tried to meet friends in Florence, we ended up texting (cost was 50 cents each, well worth it), and it turned out we were almost next to each other, but could not see each other. (Maybe if we were each wearing a fancy tall hat with lots of flowers and fruit... we could have been spotted :D ). GC
roothy123 Posted April 7, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2018 Or maybe something like this: Go to St. Mark's Square complex, not in the actual square itself, but on the sidewalk along the waterfront. Stand so the left-most tall concrete column is in front of you. The tall reddish bell tower is probably visible as well.) Here's a picture from Google Earth: http://www.pbase.com/roothy123/image/167269732 Turn left, walk down sidewalk a short way (less than a block, but may be jammed with vendors/tourists) and keep your eyes open for a break which reveals a small park on your right. The park appears to be near an Alilaguna water stop platform (on water, on left), possibly with a sign announcing a 20 euro water tour by Alilaguna) and a kiosk for Alilaguna on sidewalk on the right of you. There are benches in the park so you can (hopefully) sit and wait, or maybe one person can go check out the tourist stuff while another person waits. I believe there is only one way to get in from the water side, so I'd try for a seat near the entrance. Or I suppose you could meet right in front of the People Mover, Venice city (Piazalle Roma) side outside the building or at the gates inside the building. Or you could meet on the Piazalle Roma side of the modern, curving Constitution Bridge, or as mentioned before, a cafe on St. Mark's Square. warburg Posted April 7, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2018 Greetings from South Beach, Jeanine. A good place to meet is outside of Caffe Florian, one of the most popular cafes in St. Mark's Square, and our favorite. Facing Saint Mark's Basilica, it is on your right. Ristorante Quadri is on the other side of the Square. Both of these places are expensive, but to us they are quintessential Venice. Mary
