alanbab Posted April 11, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2018 Does anyone know where the large cruise ships dock in Haugesund? According to "What's in port" website - its an 800m walk or there is a free shuttle bus..

stephen@stoneyard.co.uk Posted April 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2018 We docked at the end of an island. It was a bit of a walk across the island and up over the bridge. I should have used the shuttle. It is not my favourite port. Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more on a dry day. Rare dronnygirl Posted April 12, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 12, 2018 Do you have any recommendations as to how to spend the day?
Strawberry field Posted April 12, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 12, 2018 Do you have any recommendations as to how to spend the day? My wife and I went into town on the shuttle bus but I went back to the ship after half an hour. My wife came back three hours later after doing 'some shopping' I found the place boring but my wife loved it. I was happy being on board drinking coffee and watching the world go by. kruzseeka Posted April 12, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 12, 2018 Do you have any recommendations as to how to spend the day? We also got the shuttle into town then walked up to a monument called Haraldshaugen. We must have picked up a map at the tourist office and followed that. It was quite an interesting walk through a residential area (I'm quite nosy so liked seeing something of the local area) then we followed the water for a while to the monument which was in an elevated position with some views. The waterfront area back in town near the sweeping bridge which you come over from the port is quite attractive. We had a drink there. It's a pretty low key stop which was OK - we did have good weather though. I'd have to think hard about what to do on another occasion if we went - almost certainly take an excursion. Tikka234 Posted April 12, 2018 #8 Share Posted April 12, 2018 Our least favourite place on our Fjords cruise we walked across the bridge into the town about 15 min looked around nearly missed a shopping centre just up behaving the main street. Was back on board for lunch after about 2 hours not a lot to do here.
Bennybluehat Posted April 12, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted April 12, 2018 Can any of you remember where the shuttle bus drops you off in Haugesund?
Strawberry field Posted April 13, 2018 #10 Share Posted April 13, 2018 Outside a church close to the shops is where we were dropped off. Pick up was same place. Half an hour after the first drop off the buses were as full going back to the ship as they were leaving it. If I ever go there again I will definitely book an excursion. Bennybluehat Posted April 13, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted April 13, 2018 Thanks for all the advice. It’s sounding like there’s not much to do there so i can only come to the conclusion P&O visit here in order for passengers to spend money on an excursion.
Goosebear Mum Posted April 13, 2018 #12 Share Posted April 13, 2018 It’s the only stop this year I am not looking forward to. I wish we were going to Bergen instead, which we loved last year. With a lot of googling, I’ve really struggled to find anything of interest, even excursion wise. I’ve ended up booking the trip to Skudenhaven (spelling?) so at least we’ll get to see sone countryside.
