shipsealand Posted April 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2018 Our planned river cruise is 15 days and the brochure says for the included excursions there are GUIDED WALKS for about 7 of those days as well as GUIDED SIGHTSEEING TOURS for the remainder. Does the latter use bus transport? For the former how much time walking outside is involved?
TravelerThom Posted April 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2018 Some docks are near major sites and no bus is involved. Some docks (eg Nuremberg, Bamberg) require a bus to get to downtown. Most days whether bus or not will involve a walk of maybe a mile over an hour and then free time for shopping coffee whatever. Walls are generally slow with numerous stops to discuss what you are seeing. If walks are more than you can handle Guides will arrange to drop you off at a coffee house or a taxi (usually at your expense) back to the boat. This is often slower than I like and after getting the lay of the land I’ll tell the guide that i know where the boat or bus stop is and I’m going off on my own. Some tours include stop for coffee (perhaps Vienna) or beer (Bamberg). ENJOY
CILCIANRQTS Posted April 15, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 15, 2018 We took this tour a few years ago. I’m retired and have a bit of arthritis in my knees, but the pace and distance of the tours was very doable. Also, after the guided portion, you often have free time, when a coffee or a beer rest stop helps you recharge your batteries and continue on. I’m impressed by the stamina and perseverance of many of the seniors on river cruises. Sent from my iPad using Forums
