Stumblefoot Posted June 3, 2018 #351 Share Posted June 3, 2018 Boy, you sure timed it perfect for the flowers. And, indeed, Americans living near water love their boats. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rare drron29 Posted June 3, 2018 Author #352 Share Posted June 3, 2018 The fort had disappearing guns-they could be lowered out of sight. . Work was done in underground rooms preparing for firing.it took 100 men to man the 2 10 inch guns. . The last of the fort. .. And end with a beautiful pair of birds. .. SeekingShelter Posted June 3, 2018 #353 Share Posted June 3, 2018 FYI: Those “pretty yellow flowers” are Scotch Broom, which are considered a noxious invasive weed in the Pacific Northwest. But at least they don’t bite, like the other invasive plant, the Himalayan blackberry. Huge thorns but delicious fruit. Rare drron29 Posted June 3, 2018 Author #354 Share Posted June 3, 2018 But only 1 of the yellow flowers was the Scotch broom. The second at Deception pass was a tree with hanging bunches of yellow flowers and at the fort they were ground level leafy plants. But certainly agree that in many parts of the US and elsewhere in the world Scotch broom is a disaster. But on our cruise the plant that worried me the most was your own Pacific poison oak. Rare drron29 Posted June 4, 2018 Author #356 Share Posted June 4, 2018 The mountain became clearer. .. Arriving at Friday Harbour and there is a plane in the marina. .. And now our little wander. .. I think that vehicle needs some TLC.
Rare drron29 Posted June 4, 2018 Author #357 Share Posted June 4, 2018 A wonderful archway made by pruning a single tree now ~ 100 years old. .. Some flowers and a nice gift shop through it. .. But nothing as nice as this lady. . I did have to have a little giggle at a restaurant promoting eat local. They had Tasmanian Ocean trout sashimi on the menu.Only local for me when working in Tasmania. We spent a fair while just people watching particularly when the ferry arrived then left. .
Rare drron29 Posted June 4, 2018 Author #358 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Before getting the zodiac back to the ship we had a very nice ice cream.it was a bit warm sitting in the sun. On the way back there were now 3 planes in the marina. .. In that zodiac coming back a Venetian family coming back from their short visit to the Explorer. Some nice places with a great view if the weather was as good as today. .. But the Explorer beckons. .. Back on board we found out the reason for this stop. The pilot for Vancouver was coming over on the ferry and it was a little late,

Rare drron29 Posted June 4, 2018 Author #360 Share Posted June 4, 2018 One of the larger cruise liners docked behind us. .. This turned out to be a blessing as we did not have to line up at Immigration and customs like they did.So we waltzed off and there were lots of taxis waiting. So soon at YVR.Rojaan meets a moose and our plane to Victoria has arrived. .. Not a bad view for an airport. . So our SS adventure ends.i will a little later dio a summary. if anyone wants to see what we did before the cruise it is here.Dont bother reading the cruise portion as it is basically identical with this. https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads/the-drrons-shoot-a-killer-and-other-delights.88100/ I will also post about our time on Vancouver Island and the other stops on the way home and will post here when done. thanks for sailing along. Rare jpalbny Posted June 4, 2018 #362 Share Posted June 4, 2018 What a great trip! Thanks for taking us with you. Loved the pics and commentary from the Puget Sound region. We visited in 2005 or so, and drove the area for a week. We used the ferry system quite a lot and even spent a few nights in Friday Harbor. Those islands are gorgeous, especially Orcas Island. It's a shame that you didn't get to do more on San Juan Island. There is some interesting history there - a British and an American fort, on opposite sides of the island, dating back to the "Pig War" which was funny to learn about. Great shots from the rest as well - loved seeing San Francisco and Oregon from your lens, and your perspective. The quote is, "The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco." But it is not verified as Twain's, according to Wikipedia. Nonetheless it is so true! The summers are frigid, but autumn is just beautiful.
