Onboard the Legend

Hi all,

 

I'm speaking to you from the Internet Cafe on board the Legend. It's a great ship. We are about 1 hour from docking in Barbados, and tonight is New Years Eve.

Boy they were right about the Urns on board. If they aren't physical Urns, there are pictures of Urns. It's like a Greek Fantasy, but it's not offensive as some have indicated.

The food has been very good, and of course the people have been great. Our room Steward Wight has been wonderful, and we've had all kinds of towel animals.

I'll answer any questions if you have them. I'll try to log on tomorrow to answer them. Have a great New Years Eve.....I know I will!!!!

 

Oh, I just looked outside, and we are actually coming into port early. Gotta go explore.

Ok, I don't have all the answers, but I will when I do my formal post and review. Brett is still the cruise director....what a dweeb!!! We've been to 2 shows, and we personally thought they sucked. As for the Capton, I've met him twice and I can't remember his name...sorry.

We haven't taken any excursions, but I'll report on our activity later.

The weather has been glorious. I mean we couldn't have asked for better. It's been a bit windy, but that makes it less hot every day.

The food has been pretty good so far, yes this is our last day aboard. You have to forgive me, I was up until 5:00 am in the casino last night, and I'm a little fuzzy. The beef dishes have all been fantastic quality.

Anyway, I'm off to lay out a bit. I'll do a full review after I return. Trust me, you will have a good time, I know we did.

What shore excursions did you do? WHat would you recommend NOT doing?

How much are the frozen foo-foo drinks running. Does the Legend have a

artist on board on the promenade deck that does portrait pastels (Triumph has this)? Are they still doing win a cruise bingo? What do you find yourself wishing that you brought with you? Greetings All,

 

Oh the Legend… What a wonderful ship! Amy, we were sailing together! We were also on the New Years cruise, 8 days of R&R, sun and the sea, an awesome way to ring in a new year!

 

I have nothing bad at all to say about our experience with the Legend or Carnival. This was my/our second cruise, the first was with Norwegian. There are differences for sure, and I would highly recommend Carnival for families more so than Norwegian.

 

Our room was 7191 our room steward was Derrick, and he did an outstanding job everyday. Our balcony was spacious 3 chairs and a small, small table with plenty of room to spare. My oldest son slept out their every night. We had a safe, fridge and plenty of room for the 4 of us. I will say the shower is small. They provide shampoo (Dove), Body wash (Dove) and a hairdryer, beach towels and robes. So you don’t have to pack those things. I will remember this next time for sure!!

 

Food was good, I am not a big eater and tend to eat the same thing daily or the same types of food so I am not the best for food reviews. However my 3 teens, 2 boys and 1 girl found the food to be GREAT and of great abundance. The ship offers, ice tea, water, coffee, apple juice, fruit punch and I think hot chocolate and hot water for hot tea 24/7 for no extra charge. So for those of you who are wondering what there may be for you to drink at no extra charge, that would be it. They also have a new juice of the day like orange or mango. As far as bar drinks go, I didn’t have any so I don’t know. The ship has a coffee bar, this is an extra charge.

 

Yes they play bingo for a free cruise near the end of the trip. My kids LOVED the shows. I went to one show called “Take Two” and I thought it was pretty good.

 

Don’t get to excited about the selection on the room service menu, mainly breakfast foods like cereal. Nothing for later in the day. Room service was very prompt and delivered to the table. Made me happy to have coffee on the balcony in the am.

 

Yeah the cruise director is a bit of a dweeb, but again, he was just the cruise director.

 

Shopping…..oh how much fun that is <smile>. Barbados is expensive but I LOVED it there, Martinique, well it was Sunday and new Years Day so needless to say we just shopped the duty free stores. St Martin is a shoppers paradise, bring your money and a large beach bag or two to carry all your goodies in. If you have never been to St Martin, you will be swarmed with locals as soon as you hit the main shopping area. They want to sell you something, or ask you something etc. Just keep walking and they will leave you alone. You may even say no thanks and keep walking. As long as you don’t stop to see what they want you won’t get caught up in there ploy. We just say no thank you as we continue to keep walking.

 

Everyone, everywhere wants tips so keep that in mind. ANY service you get ANYWHERE they have the tip jar handy. Not on the ship, on the islands.

 

We did Harrison’s Cave and loved it. We lucked out that day and got an extra tour of the island for free. We originally signed up for the jolly roger but I found out it was a drinking, party, adult “thing” and switched on board with no problem.

 

We snorkeled in Martinique.

 

PICTURES EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME on the ship and getting off the ship. Just so you know, smile because someone somewhere is going to take several pictures of you all week long.

 

Getting on the ship and off the ship was quick and easy, they have that down pretty good.

The staff were friendly and helpful, some were hard to understand but that is the fun of it all I guess.

 

I/we loved our 8 days of sea life and can’t wait to go again. The ship is beautiful and very well kept and very clean. This was a well needed distressing, relaxing trip for all of us. As with any cruise you can make it what you want it to be, for us this trip was about regrouping, distressing and staring the new year fresh.

 

So far so good, if this is something I have to do yearly to relax, I will and this itinerary was the perfect amount of time and went to the perfect places especially Barbados.

Thank you Serene for posting the supper club menu. It sounds so good- what a treat. Are you limited to just one appetizer or may you try 2 like in the main Dining room? Do men have to wear a jacket and tie or is dressy casual ok??? I notice you are from Philadelphia- Son loves 76ers even though we live near Chicago.

Both adventurous and athletic.We love St. Martin (Americas Cup & Golden Eagle Catamaran) but What shore activities would you recommend in Barbados and Martinique for us? We hear Harrison cave may be closed in April when we will be there and that is something we really wanted to see. WHat shopping goodies did you buy in Barbados & Martinique? Teen activities? Do they have trivia contests? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

Hi... I was on the Legend with Amy, too. We were a group of four - hubby, me, and our daughters 14 and 17. Overall, I was rather disappointed with the staff on the ship. Our room steward was the best of the bunch, but it still took two days to get the extra blankets for our daughters' beds.

 

We found our waiter to be quite challenging -- his command of English was poor and we rarely felt that he understood us, and, unfortunately, often argued with us about requests that we made (like having a different tea bag than the one presented). The Supper Club was the highlight of our meals on the ship and even then, they did not cook my husband's steak correctly the first time!

 

Our favorite thing on the cruise was the jazz trio -- the bass player was absolutely amazing and we spent each evening listening to them.

 

I won't sail Carnival again; but then I'm not of the "game shows are entertainment" mentality....

Does anyone know who has been on this particular cruise know if you can swim with dolphins at any of the ports?

Just came off the Legend also, and I don't believe you can swim with the dolphins in these ports.

 

I agree with Shelley - this was our 9th cruise - our first on Carnival. There were certainly many positives, but as an overall experience, we were disappointed enough to probably not choose Carnival again. I think there is better value for your money on other lines - especially where the entertainment is concerned. I would HIGHLY recommend spending the extra $$ and going to the supper club - Golden Fleece. We have tried the supper clubs whenever offered on other ships, and this one was totally amazing!! Worth every penny. The amount of food served was obscene, so eat as little as you can for breakfast and lunch that day.....

Anyone else? I'll be boarding the Legend a month from tomorrow. It will be my eighth Carnival cruise and 15th overall. I decided to do Carnival this trip because DH and I really liked the Spirit, I liked the eight days vs seven, and we've never been to Barbados or Martinique. RCCL's crew seems to have that special something compared to Carnival's...I'm hoping Carnival has gotten the word that friendly interaction generates happy passengers and better tips.

We've booked the Lord Sheffield in St. Martin and Silver Moon II in Barbados. We'll likely take the water taxi to a hotel beach in Martinique and rent a jet ski.

TerriDHair - Check out my post "Warning/Advice Martinique". I didn't see any jet skis in Point du Boit. If I had the day to do over, I would hire a taxi and see the island.
