Looking for suggestions in these ports

Recommended Posts

HI everyone, we still have a few loose ends to tie up with our tours. Looking for suggestions for Estonia and Helsinki. Also we are traveling with another couple and we have decided to do a private tour in one of our ports. Which port would you suggest?

We did free walking tours in both ports, but also just walked around. In Tallin, stop in at KGB prison cells on the main road and also get some delicious chocolate covered marzipan at Kalev chocolate shop!

It's up to you, as both cities are quite easy to tour on your own. However, some people prefer tours since they like getting more information from the tour guide. In Helsinki, if you choose to go independently, tram 2 and 3 will take you to most of the tourist spots quite easily. In Tallinn, you can start at the top of Toompea hill and walk down (you can take a taxi or pedicab there if you want to save your energy, which is something to consider since Tallinn is usually right before St. Petersburg and those are one or two very long days with many exciting things to see.

St. Petersburg is the port a guide and transportation would be extremely useful, and hopefully you are already all set there.

Agree Tallinn would be easy to DIY, but we did a food walking tour that was excellent. Bread, jam, and rye beer in one of the towers, marzipan from the apothecary, typical lunch in a medieval building in old town, wine at a local winery with an amazing story, and dessert in the "new" old town. Our guide was amazing and had unique insight into Estonia and in particular the Soviet occupation.

This sounds really interesting. Did you book this on your own or was it through your ship? I was trying to search for it but I couldn't find one that was described the same. Thank you!
