sail7seas Posted May 6, 2018 #26 Share Posted May 6, 2018 You might want to consider that just about anything arranged by onboard staff will cost many times more then if you simply do it yourself :). On most ships, the Guest Relations desk will not perform basic travel tasks such as arranging for a car/driver. But there are rare exceptions and we just (2 weeks ago) were involved in one of these exceptions after my DW was injured on a beach...and later needed to get to a hospital in a large Japanese port. The ship's physician, working with Guest Relations, contacted the ship's Port Agent who did hire us a car/driver (who stayed with us for nearly 8 hours). As one can imagine, the cost of this service was substantial. Hank Hank, Very sorry to read of your DW's injury and hope she is healing well. That had to be an awful experience. Great you got such help from port Agent. Welcome back and best wishes to your DW.
Rare Hlitner Posted May 7, 2018 #27 Share Posted May 7, 2018 Hank, Very sorry to read of your DW's injury and hope she is healing well. That had to be an awful experience. Great you got such help from port Agent. Welcome back and best wishes to your DW. Thank you for the very kind remarks. DW is doing fine and we are already looking forward to our next trip :). By the way, since we had to curtail our visit to Japan we decided to look at some future options in those waters. We noticed that the Westerdam does a spring 2020 itinerary that calls at more than a dozen Japanese ports. And so, our love/hate relationship with HAL continues :).
