Rare Hlitner Posted May 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 12, 2018 When looking at the Westy's deck plan we noticed that SS6052 is a bit odd shaped with an angled balcony. Wondering if anyone here has experience with those Signature Suite cabins and whether they are desired or best left alone (because of the potential lack of privacy on the balcony. anaco_angler Posted May 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Hank, we just got off the Westy on Apr 29 after a 17 day Hawaii cruise. We were in cabin #6056, a Signature Suite like #6052. When we were on our balcony looking forward, we could see the angled balcony in #6052 and it blocked our view forward. So I think those who are in #6052 and all the cabins from there forward have an unobstructed view both fore and aft. I would see the angled balcony as a plus. We did enjoy the Signature Suite and appreciated it even more after comparing it with the verandah cabin #5043 that our friends were in, Enjoy your cruise. Rare Turtles06 Posted May 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Hank, I read up on 6052 on the Vista class ships before we booked (haven't sailed yet), and folks seemed to love it. Only part of the balcony can be seen by others. See, e.g., https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2426023&highlight=6052 https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2330624&highlight=6052 This link will take you to a review done by folks who sailed in 6052 on the Noordam some years ago; scroll down a few pages and you'll see a video they took of their stateroom, including the balcony, and another from the balcony. http://www.rondougherty.com/photoalbum/2012/20120502CruiseToEuropeIndex/20120502a/20120502a.htm And some more photos: http://halfacts.com/6052-zuiderdam/ Hope that's helpful.
Rare Hlitner Posted May 12, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted May 12, 2018 Thank you for the responses. That Noordam review is about as detailed as one can get and is very helpful. Hank
Tricia724 Posted May 13, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 13, 2018 We spent 35 days to the South Pacific on Westerdam in Cabin SS6117 (also a bump out cabin on the other end of the deck), and it was one of our favorite cabins of all time. It's surprising how much that extra "wedge" of floor space adds to the cabin. It just feels much more open, airy, and spacious. We volunteered our cabin to be included in the "cabin crawl" that the CC roll call organized, and everyone was pleasantly surprised by the layout. I don't think you'd regret booking that cabin for one minute.

Hank I just spent a week in this cabin in Alaska. It was fantastic! The extra space from the angle both blocked the wind, and gave extra space. Most of the balcony is private, but it's great, too, because of the overhang from the cabin above. Very quiet, and conveniently located. On the inside, we used the extra space from the angle for one of the chairs from a desk and the coffee table for a nice seating area with a view outside. I took a bunch of pictures of the cabin, and I'll try to post them tomorrow when I'm home. It was my first cruise, and this cabin set the bar high!
