We are cruising the British Isles next year on the Brilliance. That said, Can we get a taxi or should we do a airport to hotel shuttle through RC? Second Question, What is the best way to get to the cruise terminal?

I'm doing the following in 4 weeks

Taxi for 2 with luggage from any inner city hotel to cruise port will be close, not expensive and most convenient.

From hotel to ship, I'm travelling solo and simply doing the local tram service if not raining, or taxi/uber if raining.

Train from airport to city centre. 10 min walk to cruise terminal.

Train costs €9.50pp one way or €14.50pp return.

We just got back from AMS on Tuesday.

 

More than one person with luggage take a taxi, or there are two shuttle services. The prices for the shuttle services are for one bag and one passenger. Read the reviews! We took a Taxi from AMS to a hotel right on the pier (Movenpick). 60 Euros, not cheap but it was fast door to door.

 

Take the trams for sightseeing before your cruise. Be aware that a large portion of the central city is closed to taxis at night. Download a map before you venture out. If you plan on visiting museums, buy tickets in advance.

 

IMHO the trams are not appropriate if you have more than one SMALL suitcase. Take a taxi to the pier.

Minimum 20-minute walk without suitcases.

UBER could work out fine, AMS has free internet service for WiFi calling use.

 

Unless you make prior arrangements using a US cellphone could be very expensive.

Last year we took a taxi to our AirBNB and then Ubers for the city center and getting to the port. It worked out quite well. All the cars we got, taxi or Uber, were Mercedes.
