debbiematt Posted January 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2006 We are doing a B2B Alaska in May and were wondering what there is to do in Whittier at the end of week one, We were there 16 yrs ago but we headed to the train for Anchorage and really didn't see anything then and I'm sure it has changed quite a bit from that time. Thanks, Debbiematt
Rare Coral Posted January 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2006 Not sure how much it has changed (it is still very small) but here are 2 good boat trips: http://www.26glaciers.com/ http://www.alaskaheritagetours.com/579.cfm I went on the 2nd link (Alaska Heritage 6 hour trip) and enjoyed it. I had booked the 26 glacier trip but unfortunatley had to skip it. I wish I had gone on it. The cruise line also offers a few excursions - kayaking was one of them and this 4 hour tour: http://www.alaskaheritagetours.com/580.cfm If you click on this link you can click on another link (map of cruise routes) which will show you the difference in routes between the 4 and the 6 hour tour: http://www.alaskaheritagetours.com/475.cfm
ARRTrain Posted January 2, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2006 Lets see Whittier changes for the last 16 years. The building that the cruise pass. used back then is gone. A new dock and building is used now. The whole harbor front is paved. The train tunnels are now paved for vehicle traffic and train traffic. Lots of gift shops added to the harbor front. The 14 story building the town lives in has been painted and is now brown, greenish/blue, and pinkish looking. They should have left it concrete gray or all one color and not multicolored. Rare Coral Posted January 2, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2006 I guess things have changed if the street wasn't paved before.
Budget Queen Posted January 3, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 3, 2006 In my view of prior putting my rental car on the train to get to Whittier, there have been a lot of changes. :) Did you go to Seward last trip?? I would suggest you rent a car from Avis and plan out a day trip if the glacier cruises aren't of interest?
debbiematt Posted January 3, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted January 3, 2006 Thanks Coral for the links to the diffrent excursions, ARRTrain for how Whittier has changed & Budget Queen for the Seward ideal. We haven't been there, so now I will do some homework on these ideals and try to figure out what to do, not a bad way to spend the evening! Thanks again Debbie
