tran93le Posted May 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2018 As my first cruise is coming up, what can I get for free on board? As far as I know by watching YouTube videos & researching, the service desk gives you Dramamine if you ask, & you can get a lanyard from the casino for the sail & sign card..., but that all I know. Let me know! Sent from my iPhone using Forums
CruisingMummy Posted May 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2018 If you mark down that you're celebrating a birthday, you'll get a cake or cookies in your room. Some people have said that some boats hand out playing cards for free, but that's YMMV. You can win freebies at different game events. DD almost won the Hasbro game which would've been $50 in Hasbro games. Free champagne at the art auction (absolutely not worth it). If you spend 1,000 points in the Casino you get "free" drink coupons or a sticker depending on the boat. It's only good while you're in the casino though. I don't know if it's true or not, but I read that you may be able to get a free toothbrush on some boats. I've had them deliver extra water sometimes to my stateroom throughout the cruise and not charge me, but I think that's up to the room steward. I'm not sure that it counts, but someone broke a glass once that cut my toe... the staff was nice enough to give me some free bandaids & ointment. I'm not sure that I'd recommend standing beside drunk people waiting for this freebie to come along though! :)I actually wish I would've known about the dramamine. DD got sea sick last time and we were running around trying to purchase it. Thanks for the info.

Let me know! Sent from my iPhone using Forums In the "old" days Dramamine was free. We asked for some a few years back, they sent us to the med station. $3.00 for a few pills! We always take our own , but that trip we forgot to pack them.
firefly333 Posted May 21, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2018 There is a clinic with a doctor on deck 1, I think its all the way forward, .... on all carnival ships. If you need something for a headache etc, its usually about $6 or $7 for different things, vs buying them in the onboard store, when you just want a few. OK the post above me says $3, but cheap. they used to have generic aspirin and sea sick pills in the door for the taking, though might be discontinued. ... but if you need basic medical supplies you can always go there to buy a few of this or that. Lots of free food, more than i can eat. Thats all I care about. You CAN order as many entrees and stuff at dinner, though I hope you contain yourself. Ive sat with someone who literally ordered every entree every night at the dinner table I was assigned ... sure slowed up service. Surely 4 is enough? I order 2 lobsters right at the beginning. I know I want 2. If you keep ordering things after he took the order he has to keep running to the kitchen, try and order everything you might want when he takes your order. (lobster is only on the 7 day cruise not the short ones, Im not sure which you are on)

(lobster is only on the 7 day cruise not the short ones, Im not sure which you are on) I do this with the shrimp cocktail as I know that I'm not going to be ordering dessert later on. It's also appropriate if you aren't hungry enough for a main course, but are there to keep others company. I've never heard of anyone ordering so many entrees though! buddylover Posted May 21, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 21, 2018 If you mark down that you're celebrating a birthday, you'll get a cake or cookies in your room. . We haven't had a free cake or cookies in our room due to "celebrating a birthday" ever.....used to get a cake in the MDR, but even that has stopped. You now have to pay for a Birthday cake and order it online in advance of the cruise (cost is $10)......not many freebies left these days! Even some of the 'perks' for those that have loyalty points have dwindled. :o

Even some of the 'perks' for those that have loyalty points have dwindled. :o Really? We have every time. I've heard others mention getting spa gift cards if it's a big anniversary as well. Did you fill it out online before the cruise? I don't think they pay attention unless you specifically check the box and list the date of the event. Also, sometimes the casino will send you a random gift. (Ours sent us a bottle of champagne on my birthday, but that came from a different department than the cake did.) Also, to clarify, it was a big slice of a cake, not an entire cake, but it was decorated and kind. The kids enjoyed it as an evening treat. jdoc2007 Posted May 21, 2018 #11 Share Posted May 21, 2018 A deck of Carnival Logo'd playing cards from the front desk. I know some have said recently that they stopped. I (ummm... my kids) got several pack in October and December last year during our cruises.

bnorris10 Posted May 21, 2018 #15 Share Posted May 21, 2018 You can still get cards for free at the guest services but try to get them early on in the cruise because once they are gone that is it You can go to the casino and ask for a free lanyard - again try and get it early on because once gone that is it I like to participate in games to get my ship on a stick with the cruise ship name on it - they give out medals also but those are the same on every ship if you go to the steakhouse the first night you can get a free bottle of wine

Yes, if you have a guest with you that is too tired to go to the MDR, you can also ask that they bring an entree at the end for you to take back to the room. I wouldn't do this very often, but we did it once without a problem when one was sunburned and sleepy.
CruisingMummy Posted May 21, 2018 #17 Share Posted May 21, 2018 For anyone that has an upcoming birthday or medical issue that they want to alert Carnival to in advance, it's found in the Booking Detail under where it says "My Guests". You'd think they'd put it under celebrations and such, but this is where I found where to enter the event and date of the event. DH said that he saw on a different page that if you choose not to buy a cake, expect to be sung to in the main dining room. Perhaps we got ours delivered to our room because we didn't attend the MDR that night?
smurfm69 Posted May 21, 2018 #18 Share Posted May 21, 2018 The main thing you get for free is an addiction to cruising! Hope you have a great time and visit Cruise Critic often for lots of great info on all things related to your cruise. I finally found a way to convince my friends that cruising is actually cool. If you're bleeding, the ship provides FREE bandaids. The rest of this thread adds more, like FREE playing cards. A FREE lanyard. FREE dramamine! That must be worth at least, ... 3 dollars!
JayDeeJay Posted May 21, 2018 #20 Share Posted May 21, 2018 Food in the MDR and Lido aren’t free, exactly - you paid a couple of bucks to be there at the table. We’ve laughed about our free ships pin - the most expensive jewelry we have! And worth every last penny, I might add!

firefly333 Posted May 22, 2018 #22 Share Posted May 22, 2018 Might not apply to all but for HC, you can ask ahead and get a HC shower stool. My sister does this. We dont need HC cabin, just the stool for showering and I help her.
