mickeyhereicome Posted May 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2018 I was looking at the July 23 cruise out of NYC. When I price out the cruise for my family of 4, guest #3 cost $135 more than guest 1&2 and $710 more than guest #4. What is this all about? Am I missing something? Blackjack22 Posted May 28, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 28, 2018 That happened to us a few times booking and it's been the result of two things in our case. 1) You may be on a casino rate that drastically reduces the price for passengers 1 and 2 to the point that it is actually cheaper than 3 and 4. 2) You may need to change what room you want. Some interior rooms only hold 3 people and there may even be some that only hold 2. So in order to book a room with 3 or 4 people, they have to reassign you and as a result another guest if the ship (or room category) is sold out or near sold out so it costs more. Hope this helps and curious if there are other reasons.
Rare Essiesmom Posted May 28, 2018 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2018 They are getting to capacity for families of 3/4. EM
StolidCruiser Posted May 28, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2018 As alluded to by EM, it’s called “revenue optimization” on sailings nearing capacity with a variety of cabin occupancy categories still available with a sail date proximity (especially less than 60 days). JenSDCA Posted May 30, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 30, 2018 We frequently find it cheaper to book two rooms with 2 in each, rather than all 4 of us in one. The extra space and bathroom are a huge plus :)
HeidiHo Posted May 30, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 30, 2018 Try again. I just priced that cruise out for 4 ppl and am not seeing what you are. I priced a variety of categories and it was only on the insides that I saw a 3rd person rate that was higher than 1 & 2. 4th Person was still lower. Then in Ocean views and Balconies, 3rd an 4th were all lower than 1 & 2. I did see some pretty high 3rd person rates though (almost as high as 1&2) I did not check EVERY category however and don't have any idea what category you are looking at. Prices can change frequently so maybe they have gone down.
