ABQrobin Posted June 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 11, 2018 We were just at Amber Cove in May and did the Mega truck with beach break excursion. I just thought I would give some information and also photos for those people thinking of doing the Megatruck or any of the Coconut cove excursions. First....the MegaTruck is HUGE and it does bounce a lot on the dirt roads. I would not recommend this to anyone sensitive to rough road travel. It is more than an hour each way, on a bouncy truck, no A/C just open windows. It was warm but shade in the truck, and they did provide drinks, both sodas and alcoholic (rum and coke, rum and sprite). photos: there are seatbelts, and you need them. It is bouncy. They do stop at two places for demos of cigar making, cocoa and coffee, and jewelry, cheese from a local farmer. ....more...
ABQrobin Posted June 11, 2018 Author #2 Share Posted June 11, 2018 After that, you arrive at Coconut Cove Beach for lunch buffet and beach break for over an hour. This is where MANY of the excursions go ... lots of buses were there already when we arrived. The beach was NOT crowded though, plenty of seats in shade or sun. Also there are ziplines that are part of a few different excursions. ....more...
ABQrobin Posted June 11, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted June 11, 2018 Stairs going down to beach The lunch buffet was supposed to be "Authentic" but to me it was not. It was salads, and rice and veggies, and then grilled chicken or fish. The rice pudding afterwards was so nice. The food was good, just didn't scream Authentic Domincan to me, whatever that means. I just found it to be generic buffet food that could be anywhere. I was a bit disappointed. As I said, we ate it and it was fine, just not what we expected. When we were there, it was very WINDY so not so many people in the water, and the waves looked very rough. There was a lifeguard but wouldn't say it was safe to swim. If you have any questions.... feel free to ask. robin

They have to be dried in the sun for many days, then ground, to make chocolate.

CUontheC Posted January 7, 2019 #11 Share Posted January 7, 2019 Thank you for posting this information. Since it was a tour from the cruise line did they pick you up right in port or did you have to leave the port area to get on the mega truck? ABQrobin Posted January 7, 2019 Author #12 Share Posted January 7, 2019 You meet out in the plaza of the port, where all the Carnival excursions meet.... then everyone walks out to the parking lot where the trucks are parked. All the tour buses are parked in the same parking lot.
