Loose moose Posted June 28, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 28, 2018 Good Afternoon We're departing on Silver Whisper 20th July , Yippee!! I've looked online on 'My Silversea' and the departure says 'Nice'. I'd like to check whether this is definitely Nice , Quai du Commerce or Villefranche Many thanks in advance
Rare jpalbny Posted June 29, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2018 According to the website, it is Nice, not Villefranche. The latter is for big ships. We docked in Nice years ago on Silver Wind. http://www.riviera-ports.com/en/nos-services/croisiere/planning-escale You can check the schedule at the link I posted above. UKCruiseJeff Posted June 29, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2018 Villefranche is also used for ships scheduled for Nice but when it is considered too choppy to berth in Nice. We had a cruise scheduled to depart Nice and when we arrived it wasn’t there and was in fact anchored at Villefranche and we luckily had early boarding arranged but Whisper broke it’s anchor and started drifting to the rocks. The captain had to head switfly out to sea to return in the evening when it had calmed a little to pick up all the passengers who were being entertained in the cafes and restaurants along the sea front. We and two other couples had the MDR to ourselves. You also need to check carefully because sometimes Nice is listed but they in fact mean Villefranche. We once had a long-term lease in Villefranche but found winters too quiet.
Rare jpalbny Posted June 29, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 29, 2018 Jeff, the official port website lists ships for Nice and ships for Villefranche separately, so in this case I'm reasonably confident they intend to dock in Nice. Your point about last minute changes is of course well taken...in any port. Sent from my SM-G930T using Forums mobile app
