Kids & Balcony cabin

I'm nervous about having my 3 year old in our balcony cabin, she is a fearless child and I am wondering if I made a mistake by opting to take balcony over window. We were on the Explorer last year, minus the kids, and loved the balcony, this year going on Navigator. Any feedback that could ease my mind would be great.

Kids will be ok on a balcony cabin as long as you use common sense. (not saying you dont have any) But never leave your child out there alone.(even for a second while you grab something in the cabin. and let them know that climbing out here is dangerous..so keep the chair and table away from her. I dont think she can open the balcony door to get out there by her self as the doors are very heavy. A balcony is good to have for when your daughter needs down time to take a nap--at least then you wont be shut in.

Our cabin on Explorer (deck 6) had a solid steel "wall" all around the balcony. Short of climbing over it, there is no way anyone could get injured there.

That being said, if your kid climbs over your deck rail, kiddie gate or other obstructions at home, you may want to tie down the furniture. Otherwise, I doubt your kid will try any new climbing tricks, unless he/she sees you doing it [img]http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif[/img]

I understand your concern because we added our grandson to one of our cruises last year after we booked a cabin with a balcony but the good news there was not one problem. He was almost 4 and he did really well. Its just a matter of common sense and you will all be fine and the balcony makes it a special trip. We just came back with him on his second cruise and he's closing in on being 5 and we had a huge balcony and we watched him like a hawk but he never got even close to having a problem.. Its good that you have a concern. Nothing wrong with being careful.

You have to drill into their heads...

"The number one rule on the cruise is:
NO KIDS on the Balcony without a Parent!!"

This worked for us.. months before we left.. and they really stuck to that rule.... up until the last day.. when we let them out there alone.
