On Celebrity, how does onboard credit work? Is it simply applied to your charge total at the end of the cruise or do you have to specifically apply to a purchase?

It is credited to your account and anything you buy runs it down.

And since there are two types of OBC, refundable and non-refundable, the non-refundable is the first type to be applied against on-board purchases. After all of your NR OBC is utilized, then your refundable OBC starts to be applied to your purchases. Any excess refundable OBC at the end of your cruise is credited back to your credit card.

And OBC from Celebrity can also be used prior to your cruise to book shore excursions or specialty restaurants. Not so with OBC from your TA.
