Cruise from Miami to Bahamas- Passport needed?

Recommended Posts

Hi, Thinking of traveling to the Bahamas in November. Do we need our passports?

If you are US citizens and the cruise starts and ends in the same US port, then you can cruise using a certified copy of your birth certificate and a government issued photo ID.

But if you have them, bring them. I don't even travel domestically without my passport anymore. If nothing else, it's a second form of photo ID.

I lost my wallet in Vegas a couple years ago. Easy to cancel credit cards (heck, Amex had a replacement at my hotel the next morning), and I lost a couple hundred bucks, but such is life. But if I hadn't had my passport, everything about the rest of the trip would have been much more complicated without legal photo ID. I was still able to rent the car, pick up tickets at will call, obtain markers from the casino, and board my return flight with no problem.

I get some people don't have a passport and don't want to spend the money. I don't agree with it, but I get it. But if you have a passport and don't bring it.... Yeah, I can't wrap my head around that one.

Im reading this as if you already have Passports. I too, cannot even fathom leaving this country without one, no matter where the cruise goes. My question is, why WOULDNT you take yours?

I agree with the others. While it is not a requirement to have a passport, what would happen if you were to miss the ship or, heaven forbid, get taken ill? Without a passport it would be very difficult, if not impossible to fly back to the US without a valid passport.

Don't be one of the 'I'll be fine. Nothing ever happens to me' morons who probably also argue the wearing of seat belts or continue to text while driving, or you'll potentially find out the hard way!
