Upgrade Bids on the Pearl

Hey everyone,

 

Second time on the Pearl this Thanksgiving and so excited. We bid for a balcony (from interior) last year and didn't get it. I know a lot of it is based on occupancy but I was just curious to know if anyone had their bids accepted on the Pearl and what they bid.

If you don't bid max or near max on a balcony or suite you most likely will NOT win. Usually there will be upwards of 1000 bids on balcony and suite cabins. Go big or go home.

Depending on occupancy, a fair bid on a balcony could get awarded. Much more and you can pay retail for the room and get the perks.

So what happened with your bid?

 

I just bid minimum on an Oceanview for the Christmas sailing from Tampa at the 30 day mark. The cruise shows sold out for all cabins except Inside. I am happy with my Inside location and a bit nervous about where the OV could be assigned. However, I am sailing solo and have never had an OV and didn't want to bid the price for the balcony, so if I get the upgrade the room will be a bit of a research project and I'll learn something either way for future cruises.

I'd say they are sailing now so you may not hear until they get back.

Just got back yesterday-what an amazing trip! 

 

As for your question, a few weeks after I put in my bid, I checked the prices and the price of a balcony was only $100 more than what I was bidding so I called and upgraded.  By doing this, I also got all of the promotions of the balcony room.  It was a great decision for us and I would definitely do it again.  So my advice is to keep watching those prices!

Thanks and glad you got such a great deal. That strategy won't work for me though. No balconies are showing available online. I'm traveling on a land based casino deal, so my upgrade price is predetermined and fixed. Last Thanksgiving I had a minimum bid accepted for the move to a balcony, so $100 total to upgrade. Not sure I can snag a similar deal for a Christmas cruise, but I've been a good girl this year, so we'll see.
