Mhl76 Posted August 5, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2018 What are the major differences between the Norwegian Escape Vs. Norwegian Breakaway?
Rare BirdTravels Posted August 5, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2018 The ships are cousins. The Escape has 1 additional deck of staterooms, taking passenger capacity from 3963 to 4266. The public area configuration is similar (different names to different venues in different configurations) with the addition of Food Republic (a la carte restaurant) and the District Brew House. Indykitten Posted August 5, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 5, 2018 Yes, close enough that I would choose based on itinerary rather than ship. On the NCL site you can look at deck plans and see exactly what is similar and different.
Rare Laszlo Posted August 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 5, 2018 The Vibe club is different, the BA has clamshells the Escape does not..... .
fourofakind Posted August 6, 2018 #5 Share Posted August 6, 2018 (edited) Very very similar. For me the Escape has a slight edge over Breakaway because I liked their casino better but both are awesome. Other slight differences- Food Republic- Yummy! LOVED Food Republic! No ice bar on the Escape (that I saw) but they have a couple of other fun bars the Breakaway does not have so for me it was a bonus. The duty free shop I thought wasn't that great on the Escape it seemed a lot smaller then the Breakaway and not a great selection of liquor. The guy told me they sold out most of the stuff on the prior cruise but IDK still seemed kinda eh. Those are the only differences I noticed other then different locations for some venues (kids club deck 5 vs deck 12 etc). Most everything is the same and I would sail either one depending on dates and itinerary. Edited August 6, 2018 by fourofakind
Two Wheels Only Posted August 6, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 6, 2018 The balconies on the side of the ship are deeper on Escape than on Breakaway. For the most part, the aft-facing balconies are deeper on Breakaway than on Escape. Other than the dining venues and a few details, think of Escape as a longer, wider, taller, prettier, newer version of Breakaway.
LrgPizza Posted August 6, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 6, 2018 Escape has fewer smoking areas. Ropes course is 2 levels instead of one. One of the pool bars was moved up a deck on Escape, opening up more space near the main pool. Escape has cantilevered hot tubs, hanging off the side of the ship. Setsail15 Posted August 7, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 7, 2018 Sailed on Breakaway May 2017 and Escape June 2018: Biggest pluses on the Escape: 1) District Brewhouse - Excellent space with entertainment and comfortable seating, even if you are not a beer drinker. If you are a beer lover ..... 2) Slightly more space by the pool with large TV screens. Was on ship during World Cup, so this was great 3) Better water element in Spice H2O, and additional hot tubs on sun deck Biggest Pluses on Breakaway: 1) Enjoyed Rock of Ages over Escape shows. 2) Enjoyed second city vs stand up on Escape Overall the ships are close, but preferred the Escape. Both ships are crowded, but manageable.
carsaw Posted August 8, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 8, 2018 I prefer the Escape over the Breakaway. Last time on the Breakaway there were plumbing problems the entire cruise. The plumbing in our balcony cabin did not work 1/2 the cruise and many of the public restrooms had problems also. There were no other cabins available to move us so we were frustrated the entire cruise last year. Since that time read many other complaints about problems on the Breakaway. Every time I went to guest services they just kept saying people flush items they shouldn't so that's why there are problems!? Never again on the Breakaway, just booked the Escape to Bermuda. :D
Mikkar Posted August 8, 2018 #12 Share Posted August 8, 2018 I seem to be in the minority but I prefer the Breakaway. I have sailed on the Escape twice since it started sailing from New York and don't like it as well as the Breakaway.
