Casino opening time out of New Orleans

The casino should open shortly after you leave New Orleans (usually within 15-30 minutes after sailaway). Take your flyer, email or whatever you have showing that you have $1000 in casino cash to the cage in the casino. They should be able to help you. (You may not need it because they should have your name, but I would take it just in case).

FYI - I sail from there all of the time and spend way too much time in the casino!! When is your cruise and what ship?

Have a great cruise!!

Does anyone have recent info. on what time the casino opens when sailing out of N.O.? Also does anyone know how casino cash is handled? I'm sailing on the Dream and have $1,000 in casino cash. Not sure how it works

Its credit put on your acct., in the casino. You gotta gamble it, thats how the club explained it to me!

Yes, its put on your players card. You don't actually get cash.... in some instances. In others, they give you the cash. Just depends on the ship. I have heard it both ways.

FYI - I had $100 from the casino on my May cruise on the Fantasy and they just gave me the cash.

This just shows the misinformation out there. I believe you, but I read another post a while back that stated the casino didn't open until the ship was out in the ocean (which means hours after setting sail).

My last cruise out of New Orleans, and this was several years ago, the slot machines opened as soon as the ship pulled away from the port and the table games opened about an hour later since gambling is legal in Louisiana when on the river.

It depends on the port. NOLA is one port that literally opens within minutes of leaving.

Can't believe everything you read. Riverboat gambling is legal in Louisiana, and now it is legal for the casino to extend some onto land. Could they someday open immediately after muster?

Oh good lord. If that was the case it wouldn't open until around 11pm or so!! Gambling is allowed in LA. In fact, there is a Harrah's near the port.

Enjoy your cruise!! I sail from NOLA on the Dream again on Sept 30 (a casino premier cruise!!)

Cruise ship casinos has the choice to purchase the River Boat Gambling License to be able to open their casinos while on the river in LA. Some cruise lines choose not take on the extra expense and inspections. Carnival does tend to get the license even for 1 off cruises, so the casino can open within the hour of departure.

NOLA opens almost immediately open leaving port. Due to Gambling being legal in NOLA. Other areas have to wait until in International Waters to avoid the laws, as well as taxes.
The blanket statement that gambling is legal in NOLA in inaccurate.

Louisiana issued one single license for a single land-based casino (Harrah's in NOLA). All other casino gambling in Louisiana is riverboat gaming (the real reason the ship's casino can open before reaching the Gulf), Indian casinos, or racetracks that can have machines but no live table games--nothing to do specifically with NOLA.
