crazy4cruisn Posted January 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2006 We will be on the HAL Jan 2007 cruise Valparaiso to Rio. Do we need to get individual visas for Rio? Does the ship sell them or do we have to get them before we go?
Jane110 Posted January 8, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Yes, you will buy Visa's for each person at the cost of $100.00 pp. Make sure to tell them you want the ones that are good for 5 years, not just a few months. It's the same price for either. You have to buy within 90 days before the start of yourtrip If you live near a Brazillian consulate you can get one with them overnight. If you don't, you'll have to use a service and they'll take care of the paperwork for you and it'll take a couple of weeks. The ship does not sell Visa's. gottago2mexico Posted January 8, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2006 We used an overnight passport service, since the nearest consulate was a 10-hour drive away. We got the VISA back in about 5 days. You have to hand-deliver your passport and application, so you can't mail it. You have to either deliver it yourself or hire a service to do it for you. Petoonya Posted January 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Can you mention the name of the passport service? And what the fee was over that for the visa? Thanks!
Petoonya Posted January 8, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2006 Wait forget it- looks like mentioning the name of any travel related business is not allowed. Thanks anyway.
franu Posted January 8, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2006 I believe that you should request a "multiple entry visa". It is good for the life of your passport. If you don"t have much time left on the passport, it may be a good idea to renew it. Have a great trip Fran
gottago2mexico Posted January 8, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 8, 2006 You can mention travel related businesses - just not self-advertising, or promoting sites other than cruise critic that sell cruises. We used www.visaexpress.net.

Splinter Posted January 9, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 9, 2006 Some of the consulates do accept mailed applications. I have done it twice through Los Angeles. It varies according to where you live. http://www.brasilemb.org/consulado/consular1.shtml

Petoonya Posted January 10, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 10, 2006 Zierer visa service is more expensive than the one previously listed. I know they've been around forever, but curious as to the difference in cost.
HotlantaCruiser Posted January 29, 2006 #13 Share Posted January 29, 2006 Thats really interesting that LA takes mailed applications.Mine is SF and looks like they do not unfortunately. Thanks for the info tho. :) Starting in 2006 the LA consulate no longer accepts mailed in applications. http://www.brazilian-consulate.org/ currently taking about 2 weeks for an LA Office issued Visa.. There is no way to expedite a processing in LA. There are several agencies that will process it for you for a fee, but they can not get expedited service out of LA. Zimmy Posted January 31, 2006 #14 Share Posted January 31, 2006 If Rio is a port on your cruise, rather than a beginning or end point, and you only go on ship's tours, do you still need an individual visa?
