Ray66 Posted August 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2018 A British woman has survived after falling from a cruise ship (the Norwegian Star) off the coast of Croatia, the country's coastguard has said. She told reporters she fell off the back and was "very lucky to be alive". Speaking to Croatian news channel HRT after stepping off the coastguard patrol boat the Cavtat, she added: "I was in the water for 10 hours, so these wonderful guys rescued me." How the heck can you survive for 10 hours in the sea?! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45240390
JackEdinburgh Posted August 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2018 How the heck can you fall off the back of a ship?!? But to answer your question. Apparently the sea temperature has to be around 15°C or under before that becomes dangerous. The sea temp was around 25°C. There's no dangerous fishes in the area. I suppose in theory apart from falling asleep and drowning a lack of fresh water and food would have been her only worries! Having been on a cruise for almost a week it could take a while before starvation set in ;-)
Rare MicCanberra Posted August 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 20, 2018 No one can fall off a cruise ship unless they have done something silly first, like sitting on the rail or standing on the outside of the rail. As for being in the water for ten hours, it is possible due to the water temp. Seems strange, it was reported that she had left her passport and purse up on the deck where she fell off and not in the cabin.
Rare MicCanberra Posted August 20, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2018 The latest report on the news is that she had been drinking, had an argument with the boyfriend and jumped. :(

Rare MicCanberra Posted August 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2018 Yes, and apparently it has cost NCL $600,000. Perhaps only until the footage of what happened is viewed, then their lawyers are likely to start proceedings against the women.
