New Years Eve

There will be a countdown and smaller celebrations throughout the ship (some may be for a charge). Specialty dining may have extra charges for more elaborate meal/wine pairings. Party favors may be given out (I've seen this most in the MDR ... which can lead to a noisy meal).

Sue & I have made several NYE cruises.

Our favorite was on the Enchantment on year on a 4 Night Bahamas cruise visiting CoCo Cay and Nassau. Day 2, NYE was at CoCo Cay... Nice day on the island.

Dinner was formal, steak & lobster night, party hats and favors on all the tables for everyone's use later.

The ship was one big party... Two Rock/Pop band playing in the Centrum, a Latin group Playing in Boleros, piano soloist/singer in the Schooner Lounge, the ship's orchestra played big band music in the Spotlight Lounge. Trays of champagne started appearing about 11:40pm. Big balloon drop in the Centrum at midnight. BBQ buffet on the pool deck at 12:15am. Then the First Party of the New year in the Viking Crown Lounge also at 12:15am (The Viking had been closed earlier to set up the party...

Similar parties on following NYE cruises.

One cruise on NYE we were in Nassau, The Captain left port about 11:30pm and anchored about 3 miles off shore, we watched fireworks displays from all about the Island..

The best is you can party as long or short as you wish. No driving. Just a short walk/crawl back to you cabin...

We have been onboard for New Years a few times and noticed a considerable change (not for the good) last year when we sailed on the Serenade. The party favours on the dining room tables and the special menu for dinner remained the same which was wonderful. There was, however, a great deal more of the public spaces around the centrum roped off for paying only guests leaving much less space for non-paying guests. They also moved all of the furniture to the areas where you had to pay extra leaving no chairs in the public areas. Guests who wanted to enjoy the evening but could not stand for long periods of time ended up leaving or bringing chairs from their rooms. The balloon drop in the centrum was wonderful but no complimentary champagne but they had lots to purchase at a huge cost! Unlike past years it just felt like Royal's focus was on making more money. Overall we were very disappointed.
