Nola26 Posted September 11, 2018 #26 Share Posted September 11, 2018 Yes it was the insects. Just read somewhere that people have really been getting bit bad. Sent from my SM-N950U using Forums mobile app Sorry to read that. I have only had two excursions with NCL where insect bites are a memory: 1. bike ride at a jungle resort in Belize, definitely had bites 2. ATV ride in Costa Maya, but they gave us repellent and I didn't have any bites 3. I didn't have insect bites from my jungle zip lining excursion in Roatan Certainly take the precautions you think you'll want for your family should have to deal with that. newmexicoNita Posted September 11, 2018 #27 Share Posted September 11, 2018 That isn't something my family remembers about our experience. I assume you mean insects? The monkeys grab, but no they didn't bite. The monkey experience was one of our favorite memories. I think she may be referring to the sand fleas. We learned to use DEET when we are in Roatan. I don't remember any other bugs anywhere around there, but hubby, who gets bit by anything does have to be careful when around the beach.

basicprincess24 Posted September 11, 2018 #29 Share Posted September 11, 2018 I have had two really good NCL excursions in Roatan: Maya Key: It is just across from the dock, literally you can see the ship from the private island. The resort is clean, including restrooms/changing areas Beach is close to the water Sweet pool Includes a really tasty lunch and non alcoholic beverages Animal rescue results in several different types of animals on display, including an option to get inside a cage with monkeys who literally climb all over you; gorgeous birds and sea lions also on site We didn't snorkel, but there's area for that I've worn the t-shirt I bought there for about 3yrs, wears well Return shuttles throughout the day, so go back whenever you want, you're not stuck there if you want to head back or just explore more in port Ziplining - NCL excursion, not the option in port Van ride provided a great tour of Roatan and a chance to hear about life there I had never done it before and was definitely nervous Their safety briefing/demonstration calmed me They fit you with equipment to ensure it is on correctly, meticulous and friendly Offered to ride with anyone that was really nervous, I did fine solo Lots of runs, may be a dozen Photos of you in flight available for purchase Fun and friendly group of guides I was almost doing a no hands move by the end, really got comfortable during the excursion I have checked Ziplining in the jungle off my bucket list, but open to returning to Maya Key. Definitely a top adventure excursion (ATV in Costa Maya is my other) We've also done both these excursions in Roatan, and both times Roatan was the highlight of our cruise. We opted to do the snorkeling at Maya Key even though it was an additional charge (~ $20 pp for all gear). I would highly recommend it. You snorkel from a pier and swim out to the dropoff - such a neat experience and we saw so many fish!!

Very nice beach and a great lunch. Our sons enjoyed snorkeling off the snorkel park and just brought along our own snorkel & mask sets.
LuckyLori Posted September 19, 2018 #31 Share Posted September 19, 2018 We booked through pirates of the Caribbean. We did the zip lining then they took us to the ferry to Little French Key. It was awesome. There were 11 lines. They took you to the top of a ‘mountain’ and you basically went from platform to platform. It took about 1 1/2 hours then to LFK. The beach was great and the food drinks were great. The grounds at LFK were beautiful, they had several animals. It was a great day!! Sent from my SM-N950U using Forums mobile app The no see ums are bad at most if not all beaches in Roatan. High deet bug spray seems to work best for us.
