Lindslea1 Posted September 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2018 We haven’t been to Costa Maya in years, and are looking forward to a port day in November. I use an electric scooter but can walk a little with a walker. We enjoy the beach and water, and ruins are of no interest. Neither is alcohol, so a nice beach club that isn’t alcohol inclusive would be a possibility. Any suggestions?
Rare crewsweeper Posted September 4, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Can't recall if the tram is wheelchair accessible. But you can relatively easily make it out side the gate to the taxi stand and the Taxi Captain there will set you up with a van taxi that can handle your wheelchair. As the malecon itself is concrete and flat, it is easily accessible to any beach club there. I suggest you look into a specific destination for your taxi. Tropicante or Pez Quadro would be 2 good pay as you go options. Pitaya may be another (I haven't been there, but supposedly set up to be a bit more European in flavor). If you do take the tram down, remember you'll need a taxi coming back. And then get off at the first tram stop, and go down the malecon to find your club of choice. Be leery of all the guys hawking lounger to clubs, many of these clubs do not offer good service or good loungers.
Lindslea1 Posted September 5, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted September 5, 2018 Thank you for a very helpful response. I looked at all three, and Pitaya appears to be really nice. I am hoping to find something not too crowded and busy. It looks like some take advanced reservations and limit the number of guests.
Rare crewsweeper Posted September 5, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 5, 2018 check cruisett.com and see how many ships are in port with you. At present the max is 3 but they are expanding the pier to hold up to 6. If you are the only ship in none of the beach clubs will be crowded. If there are 2-3 ships in with 1 or 2 being relatively large for passengers, advanced reservations are a good thing.
