Question for British Isles cruise on Crown Princess May 2019

Hello all fellow cruisers,

We are a party of four adults flying from Boston Mass to Dublin Ireland for our 12 night British Isles cruise on Crown Princess.  First question, since the ship departs Dublin at 9:30pm and we are arriving in Dublin at 8:00am, can we drop our bags off at the port, check-in, then go sightseeing around Dublin?

question #2...whats the best form of transportation to and from the cruise port to the airport?  Does the cruise port have a name?  Or is it just the Port of Dublin?

question#3...since this cruise has three ports that are the start-finish locations, ours being Dublin, does that make disembarkation easier at the end?  Since not everyone is disembarking?

thanks, Jodi

Since that will be the first time with Dublin as an embarkation port for Princess, it will be hard to get information on it right now. I am booked for June 2019 on that itinerary and was considering boarding there as well and looked into it a bit (ultimately booked the Southampton embarkation cruise).  Dublin port looks to be about 25 minutes drive to/from the airport, and plenty of taxi's available I'm sure.  Or the Princess transfer to the port is $49pp.  Since your cruise sails that evening, I would think you could drop off your luggage at the port until boarding starts, although there will probably be Dublin passengers disembarking that day (you could look at your itinerary and see when the previous Dublin one "docks" that day, and figure they will be off an hour or so after docking time).  And presumably your cabin wouldn't be ready until at least early afternoon.  As for differences in disembarking in Dublin vs. Southampton or Le Havre, all I can find about the Le Havre passengers this past season is that they met that morning with French customs agents on the ship before disembarking (since they were a much smaller group than the Southampton passengers).  I don't know if that would make it longer or not.  I would assume that Dublin will be similar with Irish customs, or it could be done in the port itself as you disembark.  You would also be disembarking at the same time as the rest of the passengers are getting off the ship for their shore excursions (or taking taxi's and busses into Dublin).  Lots to think about for sure! 🙂
