mnsawyer Posted January 13, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2006 Know there is a HUGE thread on Tampa hotels but wondering if there is a hotel that is reasonable ($100) that would have a shuttle from the airport as well as shuttle to the port the next day. Also, shopping, restaurants, etc., within walking distance. Know that's a lot to ask but just thought I'd try!! Thanks!
cinnamon Posted January 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 25, 2006 I would really like an answer to this as well. The alternative is trawling through 597 posts on the main Tampa question. Anyone able to help? Cinnamon
lgt Posted January 26, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2006 We stayed st the Wyndham Habour Island thru priceline for $65 2 yrs. ago. Great place, walk to streetcar to go to lots of resturants, shops, etc. They had a shuttle to/from the airport and the port. It is downtown, near the pier. jkrislc Posted January 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2006 I stayed at the Doubletree Westshore Airport and really enjoyed it. They provided a shuttle from the airport to hotel, hotel to port, and port to airport after the cruise. In addition, the offer local shuttle service to the malls and Walgreens every half hour. We found it on Hotwire for $68 and found the rooms to be very comfortable with upgraded furniture, bedding, mattress, etc. It's a three star, but I'd be willing to give it four stars. If you're interested, you can see what I wrote about this hotel in my cruise review here http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=281285 Just go to Days 1 & 2 for information on the hotel. Enjoy!
cinnamon Posted January 27, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Thanks Jkrislc for the report. I would love to go to the Doubletree as it seems to fulfil our requirements with the added bonus of the shuttle to the shopping mall. We have a good quote from Hotwire but of course you do not know in advance which hotel you will get. It is a bit of a gamble and as the casino is one place on the ship that I don't frequent, it may not be the way for us to go about this. kimmimom Posted January 27, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 27, 2006 Doubletree was great! I don't know how close to restaurants, etc, but as said above, they run a shuttle every 30 minutes close by. There were 5 of us and the savings on shuttles from airport to hotel, hotel to port, and port back to airport was huge! Well worth it. Our room had a balcony overlooking a pool and garden area. PLus you get warm choc chip cookies on arrival! Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
bellybutton Posted January 28, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2006 Thanks We just booked this also for April 8 with State Govt. rate. Since we are driving down there and they offer free shuttle service and parking it worked out great! Doubletree Hotel Tampa Westshore Airport 4500 West Cypress Street Tampa, Florida 33607 1-813-879-4800 I spoke with Doubletree today and was planning on making a reservation but was told that the government rate does not include parking while on your cruise or the shuttle to the port. momofzeke Posted January 29, 2006 #9 Share Posted January 29, 2006 Chase Suites has a Ship & Shore package that gets you transportation from airport to hotel, then hotel to cruise terminal, then when your cruise is over, cruise terminal back to airport. To get this, you have to get the Ship & Shore package. They have 1 or 2 bedroom suites. Not within walking distance to much, but they will shuttle you to malls, etc. that are within 3 to 5 miles from the hotel (can't remember the exact distance). There is a Bahama Breeze restaurant next door.
cinnamon Posted January 30, 2006 #10 Share Posted January 30, 2006 We took the gamble and booked with Hotwire. It paid off and we will be staying at the Doubletree Tampa Airport hotel. $65 basic, $80 including taxes etc. We were unsure whether this site would work for us from the UK, but there is place to put your country and once we worked out how to enter a differently configured phone number the booking was accepted. We look forward to using the shuttle for the mall, port and airport. Many thanks to posters on this thread for the advice which made this possible. kimmimom Posted January 30, 2006 #11 Share Posted January 30, 2006 I stayed at Doubletree on Jan 14, 2006 with the govt rate. We got the free shuttles anywhere. After you check in, you go to a desk wherre you sign up for shuttle. They do not (at least not then) ask what rate you have or anything. Just give your name. My sister also booked it and had no problems. We did not park, but we got the free shuttle from the port back to the airport on jan 22 with no questions asked. They told us we would just sign up for shuttle when we arrived, whcih we did.
Cruiser-66 Posted January 30, 2006 #12 Share Posted January 30, 2006 Is there anyway to know what hotel your getting when you book thru Hotwire? I would also be happy with the Doubletree. I've never used Hotwire before, so it would be new to me.
cinnamon Posted January 31, 2006 #13 Share Posted January 31, 2006 There is no way of knowing whether you will get the Doubletree or not with Hotwire. It was a gamble that paid off for us. Several posters have done this but there are no guarantees. Cinnamon
jkrislc Posted February 1, 2006 #14 Share Posted February 1, 2006 While there is no guarantee, I was 95% sure I was going to get the Doubletree through Hotwire by visiting bidding sites before bidding. There are several sites that list the hotels that each booking site uses and the amenities each offers. As a result, you can make an educated guess if the "offered hotel" has the same amenities.
