Captains Club Status

Your Captain's Club membership falls into one of three levels. To qualify for enrollment, you must complete one Celebrity cruise.

The three levels are: Classic Level (after first completed cruise), Select Level (after completing 5 cruise credits) and Elite Level (after completing 10 cruise credits). When you've completed your fifth and tenth cruise credits, your membership will automatically advance to the Select and Elite Levels, respectively. You can enjoy your new membership benefits on your next Celebrity cruise. (Please note: Your membership number will remain the same as you advance to the next level.)

I was curious since we will move to select after this cruise (I think) so I checked the web site, above.

Bob -

Are you sure it isn't

1-4 Classic

5-9 Select

10+ Elite

???

Technically, you could explain it either way.

You are Classic after you complete 1 cruise and remain at that level through, and including cruises 2,3,4 & 5. As you disembark from cruise #5, you are now a Select member.

You remain Select through, and including cruises 6,7,8,9 and 10, being "promoted as you get off the ship after the 10th cruise.

The key is how many cruises (OK actually "credits") you have completed. But there are always exceptions. When we were on the Brilliance of the Seas transatlantic last year, we had 9 credits when we boarded. While we were working with the Future Cruise Consultant/C&A Rep I jokingly asked if he would give us Diamond credentials at the half-way point since we were earning 2 credits for the cruise. Hey, it made sense to me and all he could say was "no". Well, he did me one better. He put a Diamond sticker on our Seapass cards on the spot (this was day 2 of the cruise) and keys to the concierge lounge. I know that was RCl, but the Crown & Anchor and Captain's Club work the same way.

I sort of wish they would combine the credits rather than just offer reciprocity. We have 11 credits on RCL and 10 on Celebrity. After our summit Hawaii and Jewel Baltics cruises it will be 13 and 12 - enough for Diamond Plus in C&A if they were combined. On the other hand, combining them would flood both programs with 2nd and 3rd tier members.

Guess it depends on the time perspective. I think most folks want to know what their status will be when they step on the ship, hence the alternate counting method.

Nice to hear they treated you well on the 1/2 way point. I asked something similar once, but the Celebrity rep wasn't as forthcoming. Now it only matters on RCL anyway. They've got C&A categories for people who must lease cabins by the year!

Technically your initial post was incorrect; the other poster (canderson) had it right! As you point out, credits count and not the number of cruises. You accrue your credits only after you complete a cruise, just like airline miles. Your status depends on how many credits you have when you board your cruise.

As far as I can tell (and someone can correct me if I am wrong), you get 1 credit for a cruise. If you are Concierge Class you get 1 more (don't know if you get more for a suite). For a 14-day cruise, you get another credit. Cruises longer than 14 days may have additional credits.

Actually, my initial post was accurate if you consider that you don't get the credit until you get off the cruise. The way I posted it, you would be a Classic member unti after you earned the 5th credit.

It's really hard to put in a table because you can interpret it either way.

But the bottom line is:

As soon as you complete the cruise on which you earned the 5th credit, you become Select. Upon embarking for the next cruise, you get the benefits. That is possible under the best circumstance on your third physical cruise (see below). For Elite, it would be on the cruise after you completed earning your 10th credit.

Yes, you get 1 credit for a cruise of any length. You get 1 bonus credit if you are in a CC or suite cabin (same for CC or Penthouse). You get an additional credit if the cruise is longer than 11 days. I really don't like that they describe the bonus as "Double credits for booking in CC or Suite" and for cruises 12 days or more. Even with the caveat of maximum of 3 per cruise, people will forget that and expect double, double.

So, if you cruise in CC or suite and for longer than 11 days, you could be Select on your third cruise and Elite on your 5th.

Suites, like CC, get the extra credit. The "long cruise" point kicks in at 12 nights. Maximum awarded is 3 per cruise (unless you're doing a B2B, of course).

Is there somewhere you can go to check your credit count? We have been in CC class on some longer cruises so I really don't know our current count.

More of a curiosity than anything else.

You can get your current status by going to My Celebrity / Captain's Club on the web. However, it doesn't give a specific count associated with your status. You'd need to make a call to the Captain's Club to get that.

Allrighty now..........................have any of you seen the movie "IT's A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD" ? If yes, the above posts sound just like the scenes between the five cars occupants just after Jimmy Durante goes "sailing, right out there.". If you haven't seen the movie, there is just no way to explain what you've missed..:D but the paragraph below may give you some idea.

Now, if I have this straight, I get 1 credit for taking a cruise and 1 credit for taking a cruise of 12 days or longer. So, for the 8 day Mercury cruise I have 1 credit. For the 12 day Alaska cruise I have 2 credits, so now I have 3 total credits. For sailing to Hawaii for 14 days we will get 1 credit for the cruise and 1 credit for being on the cruise longer then 12 days BUT we don't get those credits until after we get home from Hawaii, giving us 5 total credits. NOW, when we book our NEXT Celebrity cruise we will be Select members.

Oh man, I have Got to get some sleep.

Why is the number of cruise credits such a big secret that you have to make a phone call to find out.

Hi Lisa !

Excellent question. I have been asking this same question to Captains Club for about 3 years now. I cant imagine that with today's technology, when you log into "My Celebrity", they SHOULD be able to give you a count of your sailings as well as the ships and dates you have sailed on. This information already exists on Celebrity's computers (I have seen it at the Captains Club Hostess Desk), so why cant they bring this information over to your profile ?

Princess already does this, and it is something Celebrity should have taken care of a long time ago.

To everyone reading this, please keep asking/writing Captains Club about adding this feature. Hopefully, if enough of us ask, it will happen eventually.

For what it is worth:

I disembarked from the Zenith on Nov. 17. Today I received a letter from Senior Vice President, Marketing stating I was now on the ELITE level having just completed my 10th in Nov.

I just thought that was pretty fast!

I would suggest you verify their count. X had me having 2 more cruises than my DH. They did check and correct it. When my daughter turned 18 and I enrolled her, they were missing a cruise for her also, which they confirmed and added.

I agree with Andy, this would be a great feature to add to My Celebrity.

The perks listed above have changed also. You no longer get 10 free internet minutes--you get a discount on a package of like 100 minutes.

Andy,

On RCL (parent company) you can see your cruise credits and history on line, not just your level. You'd think they could take the good ideas from each site and combine them.

See...THAT is what really perplexes me! Even on the X site, if you go to My Celebrity/Captain's Club it WILL tell you what level you are, but not how many credits. It is just too logical to post both the level and number of credits. Now that I know that RCL has the technology it just makes angry that it doesn't work for both lines. I really wonder if RCL is trying to run X into the ground.

In addition to the cruise count, Celebrity set an arbitrary start date for their "new" system several years ago that knocked off 4 of our credits. I was NOT happy and after repeated calls to the Captain's Club I got no satisfaction. We should be Elite but now will still not hit it after our next X cruise in a CC cabin for a 14 day cruise. Bummer.

We are one away on RCI too but that is because they screwed up our account and we can't provide proof of cruises going back to 1986. One day the computer had it right and the next day POOF. I guess that's what you get for loyally sailing three of their ships more than once plus all of the single sailings on five of their other ships.

So if you have sailed with X for a while your count may not be what you think and good luck getting it adjusted.

From now on we will keep every picture with the Captain standing in front of the ship with the cruise number, sea pass, notorized RCI stock certificate, record locator, date, Chief Engineer, Hotel Manager, Chief of Security, Michele Roux, and the Pope. Somehow I don't even think that will work, but it's the best idea I have had so far other than buy the cruiseline.

Good luck getting satisfaction!

They did not knock off any credits. You never had those credits since they had a different program then. They set a date they changed the program and started giving credits instead of counting only by cruise and use the credit system for sailings after the date they started the new system. Be grateful that they changed the program and now give more credits if you go on longer sailings and higher cat. cabins.
