boulders Posted November 11, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2018 We will be arriving at Port Arthur in a few months on HAL's Noordam. We have a separate visit to Hobart, where I've booked a tour. Does anyone have recommendations for Port Arthur? Would you recommend a ship's shore excursion or can I see enough wandering around by myself? Are there tours on shore that I can book that day? TIA. GUT2407 Posted November 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2018 I’d simply do Port Arthur myself, there are guides and signs that fill you in. if you start at the visitors centre there are maps etc to help you. dont miss the visit to The Island of the Dead and Point Puer. I should have added that I’m pretty sure there is a small extra charge for those.
GradUT Posted November 13, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 13, 2018 It’s totally possible to self-tour at Port Arthur. All tickets, even the basic entry one, include a guided 40-minute tour of part of the complex. In addition, you can add the tours of the cemetery and Puer Point for A$30. I definitely recommend doing that. There is a lot to see at Port Arthur, especially if you do the additional tours, so plan to get there early!
