Have You Cruised to Cuba with Children?

We took our 12 year old son and he liked it, but he is a big history buff and able to recognize propaganda. I would not recommend it for most kids. Cuba is unlike any place you have ever been; it doesn't have many purpose-built tourist attractions. Most people go for the architecture, the music, and the mystique--things that kids aren't really into. Also, you have to keep the Treasury Department regulations in mind. Although the ship's tours will be in compliance, none of them are likely to appeal to kids. You can do a tour on your own, but you have to follow the regulations (there are extensive threads on this.) My son got a sore throat from the fumes from all the old cars. That said, we go where we want to go and the kid "gets" to come, too. If you decide to take them, I recommend getting some library books and/or videos so they will recognize things when they see them and have a bit of anticipation.
